What is a master class?
A master class is a rare opportunity to take a peek into the mind of a master musician, as he/she coaches students in a public mini-lesson.
Chad Hoopes -- who will be performing on the Washington Performing Arts concert series at the Kennedy Center the next day -- will teach three violin students from The Joseph and Goldie Feder Memorial String Competition and the Washington Conservatory, giving insights into music and the violin, and demonstrating on his violin.
We, the audience, will have a unique listening and learning experience, in a personal and relaxed setting.

About Chad Hoopes...
21 year old American violinist Chad Hoopes has been appearing with numerous ensembles throughout the world since he won the first prize at the Young Artists Division of the Yehudi Menuhin International Violin Competition. His exceptional talent and magnificent tone are acclaimed by critics worldwide, inspiring the New York Times to describe him as an "impressive, [...] prodigiously talented" musician with an enormous stamina and brilliant, zippy sound."
He recently had a highly successful debut with Orchestre de Paris at Salle Pleyel. Further highlights of the last seasons include a tour to Russia with MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra, performances with Vancouver Symphony and Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo, recital debut at Tonhalle Zürich, and a performance at Dresdner Musikfestspiele. His Munich debut with the Munich Symphony Orchestra was highly acclaimed by Süddeutsche Zeitung, and has led to an invitation to be the Munich Symphony Orchestra's first Artist in Residence in the current season. His first recording with the MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra under Kristjan Järvi (Mendelssohn and Adams concertos) was released in spring 2014, and was enthusiastically received by both press and public. In 2014 he was admitted into renowned CMS Two Program of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center in New York. This season he will be playing several concerts at Lincoln Center in New York and tour throughout Europe and the US. He performs with leading symphony orchestras such as San Francisco, Pittsburgh, Houston, and Trondheim, as well as Minnesota Orchestra, Brussels Chamber Orchestra, Colorado Music Festival Orchestra, and the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa, Canada.
Outside the concert hall, Chad's virtuosity and exuberant personality have been featured on the CBS Early Show, NBC affiliate station WKYC (Cleveland), NPR station WCLV in Ohio, ABC affiliate station KSTP Twin Cities Live, and on PBS's From the Top: Live at Carnegie Hall. He was the soloist on the Emmy Award-winning June 2007 television commercial for the Cleveland Indians Major League Baseball team produced by SportsTime Ohio Network, which aired on NBC on SportsTime Ohio and ESPN.
Chad began his violin studies at the age of three in Minneapolis, and continued his training later at the Cleveland Institute of Music under David Cerone and Joel Smirnoff, and from 2013-15 (as a Young Soloist) at Kronberg Academy under the tutelage of Professor Ana Chumachenco, who remains his mentor. These studies at Kronberg Academy were funded by the Hilmar Kopper Scholarship. Chad plays the 1713 Antonio Stradivari Cooper; Hakkert; ex Ceci violin, courtesy of Jonathan Moulds. Tune in for a broadast of the rollicking solo recital by Washington Conservatory of Music piano faculty member Michael Adcock called Orchestra in a Piano: The Art of Transcription, recorded last summer at Washington Conservatory. The program includes lovely transcriptions of J.S. Bach by Ferruccio Busoni, devilishly difficult takes on Schumann and Wagner by Franz Liszt, and four of pianist Earl Wild's inspired settings of George Gershwin songs from his Seven Virtuoso Etudes.
