"It is no small achievement for a group uncompromisingly dedicated to contemporary chamber music to achieve such longevity." ~ The Washington Post
Verge Ensemble is the performance group of the Contemporary Music Forum, Washington DC's oldest contemporary music organization, and was the New Music Ensemble-in-Residence at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, DC from 1973-2015. Starting with the 2015/16 season, Verge will be in residence at the Washington Conservatory of Music.
Since its founding in 1973 by a group of professional performers and composers, CMF has encouraged the composition and performance of the music of our time and has been a crucial instrument in the development of new music. It is unique in Washington in its goal to support the presentation of new works, underwriting the performance of music by innumerable contemporary composers.
Enjoying wide critical acclaim, CMF's achievements have been recognized by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, as well as several major foundations including the Randy Hostetler Livingroom Music Fund, the Cafritz Foundation, the Dreyfus Foundation, the Kiplinger Foundation, and International Humanities, Inc. CMF has received numerous grants from the Copland Fund for Music.
The concert features performances by Lina Bahn, violin; Lura Johnson, piano; Bill Richards, marimba, and Tobias Werner, cello.
