Stringed Instruments of Cremona Showcase Concert
Sunday September 13 at 4 pm
|
|
Featuring violins, violas, and cellos made by modern instrument-makers from Cremona, Italy - the birthplace of Antonio Stradivarius - performed on by faculty of the Washington Conservatory of Music
and staff of The Potter Violin Company.
Faculty members from the Washington Conservatory and staff members of The Potter Violin Company will collaborate to present Mozart's String Quintet in C Major, K. 515.
The concert will begin with a unique performance of J.S. Bach's Suite No. 1 for unaccompanied cello, each movement performed on a different cello. The concert will highlight favorites for violin and piano including Meditation from Thais by Massenet and Liebesfreud by Fritz Kreisler. The approximately 1-hour and fifteen minute concert will include engaging short commentary about the instruments on which the musicians are performing.
Performers include cellists Drew Owen and Tobias Werner, violinists Steffani Kitayama, David Truscott and Mayumi Pawel, violists David Basch and George Olson and pianist, Jaewon Lee.
This concert is the culmination of an exclusive East Coast showing of dozens of fine modern Italian violins, violas and cellos from the Cremona Consortium. A free public reception in the lower level social hall immediately follows the concert. Audience members are invited to view the instruments on which the musicians performed and to speak to knowledgeable representatives of the Cremona Consortium and The Potter Violin Company.
