Cellist Danielle Cho enjoys an exciting and varied musical career. Based in Washington D.C. she frequently performs with the Washington National Opera and National Philharmonic. After studying in Barcelona, Spain as a Fulbright Scholar, she was invited to play with the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valencia where she toured internationally under Lorin Maazel and returned to perform at the Festival del Mediterrani under Zubin Mehta. She has participated in many festivals in Europe and the US including IMS Prussia Cove, Music in May, the Holland Music Sessions, Taos, Sarasota, Schleswig-Holstein and the New York String Seminar. A dedicated contemporary music advocate, Danielle has performed at the Cabrillo Festival, Spoleto USA "Music in Time" series, Santa Fe New Music, and the Lucerne Festival Academy. In 2014, she was a featured soloist at the TedxFulbright Conference held at the US Chamber of Commerce in Washington DC. She also enjoys a unique collaboration with the renowned DJ Spooky and has performed with him at the Freer and Corcoran Galleries, the National Gallery of Art, National Geographic and the Metropolitan Museum in New York.
Danielle is co-founder of Sound Impact, a dynamic chamber ensemble dedicated to bringing music to underserved communities globally and igniting change through live performance. Since its inception, it has connected with communities in hospitals, schools, homeless centers and juvenile detention centers. In August 2014, Sound Impact embarked on a ten day, five city tour of Costa Rica presenting masterclasses and concerts in SINEM schools (the national music education program) all across the country. In February 2015, Sound Impact will be in residency at the Arts Center in North Carolina, where it will perform its interactive music educational program to hundreds of young students.
A passionate educator, Danielle is on faculty at the Washington Conservatory and adjunct professor at Northern Virginia Community College. In the summers, she is on faculty at the New England Chamber Music Festival in Montpelier, Vermont. Her students have held principal chairs in the American Youth Philharmonic orchestras and the regional and district orchestras in Virginia. Danielle is a graduate of the USC Thornton School of Music and the New England Conservatory. Her principal teachers include Ronald Leonard, Natasha Brofsky, and Lluís Claret, and she has received further guidance from Ralph Kirshbaum, Paul Katz and Hans Jorgen Jensen.
