Orlando Roman has performed throughout the US, Mexico, Spain, Germany, Colombia, Cuba, and Eastern Europe, and has achieved high standing in numerous national and international competitions, including first prizes in the Rising Star Competition and the Boston Classical Guitar Society Competition. Other awards include the National Merit Award, New York Curran Award, Peabody Career Development Grant, and the Maryland State Arts Council Grant. In 2002, he represented the United States as a Fulbright Scholar to Spain. In addition to his active solo career, Roman performs with the Aurora Guitar Quartet.
Roman completed post-doctoral studies at the Real Conservatorio Superior de Música (Royal Conservatory) in Madrid, received his DMA from Florida State University, and his MM from Peabody Conservatory. He is currently the guitar chair at St. Mary's College of Maryland. Roman is a faculty member of the Washington Conservatory of Music.
