The Space between Hearing and Sight
Is Called "FAITH!"

By Ronald K. Powell, PhD, Th.D.

Consider this:
Hebrews 4:1 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. 2For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, "not being mixed with faith in them that heard it."

Hebrews 3:14 For we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our assurance firm until the end, 15 while it is said, "TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE, DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS, AS WHEN THEY PROVOKED ME." 16For who provoked Him when they had heard? Indeed, did not all those who came out of Egypt led by Moses?

WALKING
"Walking by faith, and not by sight" or "Living by faith, and not by sight"... This is the key to getting through the turmoil that surrounds us in this world today.
Walking by sight means to make your decisions in this life based on things that you see in the natural or actually in the world today. Walking by faith means that we live our lives based on what we don't see yet, but what we hope for in the future.
Hebrews 11:1 says "Faith is the substance of things hoped for; the evidence of things not seen."
It is knowing, without a doubt, that the promises in the Bible are going to come to pass. You see, faith pleases God as we walk towards things to come, knowing that God's Word is always true and He can make the impossible, possible.
So, do you rather live in fear with threats of violence, earthquakes, hunger, etc... or do you rather live in faith that no matter what happens around you, God will take care of you...
2 Corinthians 5:7 "For we walk by faith, not by sight."

WARNING
When God makes a promise He will keep it, nevertheless the justified walk by faith and not by sight.

There is the danger of falling into unbelief if you do not hold to your confidence in the God who cannot fail and does not lie till the very end.

Hebrews 3:12
Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.

Have you ever been so broken, or so distraught that you can't even see clearly enough to put one foot in front of the other.

It is like walking in a room in total darkness and having to feel your way around, touching the walls, the furniture, or the decorations to find any clue to where you are supposed to go or what you are supposed to do. We all have been there and done that...

But suddenly you reach a point that you see a flicker of LIGHT, a glimmer of hope... and you hold onto it for dear life. Then you start getting a little hint of where to step or where to go next...and you take one step at a time and wait for the next hint for the next step...

Well, I call that following by "faith". Little hints toward the next move; NEVER SEEING THE WHOLE PICTURE! BUT WALKING IN FAITH that every little step is moving you closer to the plan that God has for your life.
  • I have always loved the song "It is well with my soul", written by Horatio Spafford.
  • My favorite verse is the last verse which says: "And Lord, haste the day WHEN MY FAITH SHALL BE SIGHT, "The clouds be rolled back as a scroll; the trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend, Even so, it is well with my soul."
WAVERING
When God makes a promise... it requires a trust that does not waiver!

Wavering challenges the faithfulness of Him who has promised.

As James 1:4-8  says:  4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. 5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. 6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. 7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. 8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

WITHOUT
Hebrews 11:6 says: 6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

WITH
Mark 9:23 says: 23 Jesus said unto him, if thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.

Closing Challenge:
My challenge to all of you who have had God promise things to you and you have not yet seen the promise fulfilled, is to thank Him for His faithfulness every day and that He watches over His Word to perform it.
  • Remember who it is which Promised!
  • Do not jeopardize the receiving of the promise by doubting, murmuring or complaining...
  • Wavering faith will not see the promise!
Remember the just live by faith and The Space between Hearing God and seeing it manifest is Called FAITH!

Closing Prayer:
Lord, I praise you for helping us to walk by faith. I thank you for letting us see your presence in our lives and guiding our paths from brokenness to wholeness. I ask you to touch more lives that they will be able to walk this path of faith to the fulfillment of the plans that you have for each of us... in Jesus' Name. Amen.

Have a Blessed Week,
Bro. Ron
