SEVEN WEAPONS OF SELF-DESTRUCTION
1. SHAME
2. UNCONTROLLED THOUGHTS
3. COMPULSIONS
4. FEAR
5. HOPELESSNESS
6. BITTERNESS
7. INSECURITY
(1) REMIND YOURSELF DAILY WHAT JESUS DID FOR
Romans 8:1-4New Living Translation (NLT)
Life in the Spirit
8 So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.
2 And because you belong to him, the power[a] of the life-giving Spirit has freed you[b] from the power of sin that leads to death.
3 The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin's control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins. 4 He did this so that the just requirement of the law would be fully satisfied for us, who no longer follow our sinful nature but instead follow the Spirit.
The law of Moses could not save us because of our sinful nature. But God put into effect a different plan to save us. He sent his own Son in a human body like . He sent his own Son in a human body like ours, except that ours are sinful. God destroyed sin's control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins.
He did this by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins.. He did this so the requirement of the Law would be fully accomplished for us who no longer follow our sinful nature but instead follow the Spirit of God.
(2) ASK THE HOLY SPIRIT TO GIVE YOU BETTER THOUGHTS
Romans 8:5-6 New Living Translation (NLT)
5 Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. 6 So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.
Romans 8:7-8New Living Translation (NLT)
7 For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God's laws, and it never will. 8 That's why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God.
(3) REALIZE THAT YOU HAVE A NEW ABILITY TO SAY NO
Romans 8:9 New Living Translation (NLT)
9 But you are not controlled by your sinful nature. You are controlled by the Spirit if you have the Spirit of God living in you. (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them do not belong to him at all.)
Romans 8:12New Living Translation (NLT)
12 Therefore, dear brothers and sisters,[a] you have no obligation to do what your sinful nature urges you to do.
(4) TURN YOUR THOUGHTS TO GOD WHENEVER YOU'RE AFRAID
Romans 8:14-16King James Version (KJV)
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
(5). FOCUS ON THE LONG TERM NOT THE SHORT TERM
Romans 8:17-18Amplified Bible (AMP)
17 And if we are [His] children, then we are [His] heirs also: heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ [sharing His inheritance with Him]; only we must share His suffering if we are to share His glory.
18 [But what of that?] For I consider that the sufferings of this present time (this present life) are not worth being compared with the glory that is about to be revealed to us and in us and [a]for us and [b]conferred on us!
(6) REMIND YOURSELF T HAT GOD IS GOOD AND IN CONTROL IN CONTROL
Romans 8:26-28King James Version (KJV)
26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
28
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them
(7) TRUST THAT GOD WILL NEVER STOP LOVING YOU
Romans 8:38-39New Living Translation (NLT)
38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God's love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[a] neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow-not even the powers of hell can separate us from God's love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below-indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
