Welcome to the Winter 2015 Ton of Fun Challenge Program !

Greetings!

Welcome to the Fleet Feet Sports, Gaithersburg Ton of Fun Program !! We are so excited that you have decided to join us on this fantastic healthy life style journey and we look forward to helping you achieve that goal. This 12 week program will hold you accountable and the support and tips provided throughout the program will be instrumental in your shift to leading a healthier life. Check out more of the details of the program by clicking here to see the fantastic opportunities you have to win back your registration fee and other cool prizes. Please make sure that you keep in mind the guidelines of the program regarding weigh-ins -- you must get weighed in at the store 10 or more weeks throughout the course of the challenge to qualify for the 8 and 12 week gift certificates. In addition, overall winners will be based on PERCENT weight loss.

This is the initial week of the program where you can weigh in to get your base line level weight. Please take the time to do that sometime during business hours this week. Next week from Monday January 12 through Sunday January 18th, will be the first official weigh in that will count in calculating weight loss.

We highly recommend that you keep a journal to track what you eat, how often you exercise and how you feel. You can check out the free app from My Fitness Pal to get you started by clicking here.

Along with this weekly newsletter, each week we will offer an activity or event to help support you during this program. Some of those events will take place at our store and some will occur at the location of an organization or group. We will post these activities and events each week in this newsletter and will also provide you with a list of upcoming ones so that you can plan your schedule.

We will also highlight a healthy recipe each week from our partner, Whole Foods. We are very excited to be partnering with them in this program !!

You may have questions about the number of calories you should be consuming in order to lose weight. While we cannot provide a one-size-fits all solution, there is a calorie guide that can help you figure out what is best for you. You can access that guide by clicking here.

    We have created a closed Facebook group for just Fleet Feet Sports, Gaithersburg Ton of Fun participants. This is a place where you will be able to post and share ideas about healthy lifestyle such as recipes, tips, exercise information -- anything that will support you in attaining your goal. Also, feel free to ask each other questions that will help enhance the experience and support each other.

    In order to gain access to the group, you will need to click here and then we will be able to grant you access.

    It goes without saying that we request that all postings be respectful and please protect privacy rights by not mentioning anyone's name or information about them without their permission. The group will have a moderator who retains the right to remove postings that are deemed inappropriate.

    Foundry Fitness

    Another one of our fantastic partners, Foundry Fitness in the Kentlands is offering a free class every Sunday at 10:00 am to all of the participants in the Ton of Fun program -- what a deal !!

    Foundry Fitness is a fitness studio that specializes in group fitness, personal training and weight loss.

    Activity of the Week

    We have two activities planned for this week. The first is a Women's Self Defense seminar on Saturday January 10 from 1:00 -- 2:00 pm. It will take place at the American Tae Kwon Academy, 58 Market Street (next to Lowe's), Gaithersburg, MD. You can register for this seminar by sending an email to fitsubjj@gmail.com.

    The second activity will be a mobility and flexibility workshop with Mike Krivka from CrossFit Koncepts. This will be on Sunday January 11 at 5:30 pm at Fleet Feet Sports, Gaithersburg. If you are looking to gain some flexibility and help prevent injuries while you are getting fit, this is the workshop for you !! Coach Krivka will take you through an incredible seminar that will help you move and feel better. We will be sending out an invitation to RSVP through the closed Facebook page so be sure to join that so that you can attend this session !!


    Easy Tips for Planning a Healthy Diet

    Congratulations !! You have made the first step in moving toward a healthier lifestyle by joining us in the Ton of Fun Challenge. Here is a great article on some easy tips for planning a healthy diet and how to stick to it. You can access these basic tips by clicking here.


    A Fantastic Opportunity !!

    We are partnering with HealthTrax, a full service gym located in Germantown to provide a FREE 5 Day Guest Passes to all fall Ton of Fun participants. The guest passes must be used for five consecutive days after the first visit and the first visit must be a scheduled appointment with Joel Lara, the Wellnesss Program Coordinator.

    Want to Learn How to Run ? (Or Already Run and Want to Get Stronger at the 5K Distance?)

    Fleet Feet Sports has great programs in mind for you. This winter we will be offering our No Boundaries 5K programs.

    We have No Boundaries 1 which is a "couch to 5K" beginning running program and No Boundaries 2 -- which is the next level 5K program which trains you to be a more efficient runner and more comfortable at the 5K distance.

    Both programs will be starting the week of January 19. The Monday evening programs (NoBo 1 and 2) meet at 6:30 pm and the Wednesday morning programs (NoBo 1 and 2) meet at 10:00 am.

    It's Not Too Cold to Exercise Outdoors !

    Weekly Fun Runs/Walks

    Here is an easy way to get moving -- come to our weekly fun runs/walks at Fleet Feet Sports !!

    Every Thursday evening at 6:30 pm and Saturday morning at 9:30 am we have a fun run/walk starting and ending at the store. It is a great way to get in your weekly exercise along with having fun. Come and join us !!
