Once again, a college campus shooting causes death and chaos in the halls of academia. This morning on the campus of UCLA in Westwood, Los Angeles, CA a violent murder-suicide took place. Two men are dead. The reasons we do not yet know. But even in a state with some of the strictest gun control laws, gun violence happens all too often.

Our hearts grieve for the dead and their families who will forever be changed by these senseless deaths. Our hearts go out to the thousands of Bruins, students, Professors, Teachers, and staff who were locked down on campus during the violence. Thank you to all the first responders including the LAPD, LAFD and FBI and Campus Police who worked so quickly to find the shooter and his victim and clear the campus.

Tomorrow is June 2nd, National Gun Violence Prevention Day. The events at UCLA today are a sad reminder that our country has a long way to go to prevent gun violence. I will be wearing orange (#WearOrange) tomorrow as a sign of solidarity for all the victims of gun violence and with the nationwide effort to say it is time to challenge the NRA's policy of blocking any and all reforms to reduce gun violence in our country.

As a rabbi, I am sure that the wanton use of guns to perpetrate such violence is not what the Bible intended. I prefer to teach "Love your neighbor as yourself" as my guide for ethical living. I hope you will join me in wearing orange on June 2nd and living out that moral demand - to love your neighbor as yourself. #WearOrange

- Rabbi Denise L. Eger

Join us for this momentous opportunity to learn the facts from someone who's been on the ground, reporting the real stories in the on-going Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Rabbi Eger is proud to have such an prestigious scholar and journalist sitting across from her in this newest installment of the "Conversations with the Rabbi" series.

Avi Issacharoff is the Times of Israel's Middle East analyst.  Until 2012, he was a reporter and commentator on Arab affairs for the Haaretz newspaper. He also lectures on modern Palestinian history at Tel Aviv University.

A fluent Arabic speaker, Avi was the Middle East Affairs correspondent for Israeli Public Radio covering the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the war in Iraq and the Arab countries between the years 2003-2006.

With Amos Harel, he wrote "The Seventh War - How we won and why we lost the war with the Palestinians" which the Institute for Strategic Studies awarded for containing the best research on security affairs in Israel. Their second book, entitled "34 Days - The Story of the Second Lebanon War," won the same prize.

The funds raised will provide for the children living in Guatemala, paying for housing, education and medical treatments.

It is our goal to return this year with the ability to make an even larger impact than before. Donate to our Tikkun Olam service trip and help us improve the Lives of the Children in Guatemala

Our goal is to raise $5,500. and with your help this great mitzvah is possible.

Give now to be the lasting difference in a child's life.
