The Election and the Jews: A Post-Super Tuesday Analysis of the Jewish vote
Join Rabbi Denise Eger and renowned political expert, Dr. Steven Windmueller, for a extremely informative discussion on the on-going presidential race.
Super Tuesday is on March 1st. It's called Super Tuesday because 11 states (12 for the GOP) hold their nominating contests all on the same day. With so many states voting, the stakes are high and the results will long-lasting.
Who is the Jewish Vote supporting?
What do the results mean for the immediate future?
What will be learned about the power, or lack thereof, that Jewish voters yield?
Dr. Steven Windmueller has held a number of prominent positions within the Jewish community over the course of a thirty-year professional career including serving as the Dean of the Los Angeles Campus of the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. Most recently, he served for ten years as the Executive Director of the Community Relations Committee of the Jewish Federation of Los Angeles.
A specialist on political issues and American Jewish affairs, Dr. Windmueller holds a doctorate in International Relations from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Windmueller has written extensively on the Middle East, Jewish public and civic affairs, and global social trends. Currently, he is writing about Jewish political behavior, having released several studies on Jewish voting patterns, including a major study entitled "Are American Jews Becoming Republican?

Why does the AIPAC Policy Conference matter?
The AIPAC Policy Conference is the largest gathering of America's pro-Israel community. Through demonstrations of groundbreaking Israeli innovations, keynote speeches by American and Israeli leaders, inspiring moments on stage, and intimate educational sessions, Policy Conference delegates experience the full scale of pro-Israel activism in three powerful days.
The conference culminates with the opportunity for delegates to lobby their members of Congress in support of legislation that enhances the relationship between the United States and Israel.
Rabbi Denise Eger has again been asked to attend as a featured speaker. She will be a panel presenter in the program, "The Progressive Case for Israel" on Sunday, March 20th at 11:30 AM.
It is our sincere hope that you will consider joining Rabbi Eger, 2/3 of Congress and more than 275 synagogues in Washington D.C. on March 20-22, 2016.

We are so proud to be honoring Michael Becker and Marilyn Ader, PhD!

Dr. Marilyn Ader is a native New Yorker. She migrated to Los Angeles after stops at Utica College of Syracuse University and Kent State University for college and Masters education, she moved to LA to earn her doctorate in physiology at the University of Southern California in 1988. During her nearly 30 years at USC, she became an international expert in the fields of diabetes and obesity, and her research has contributed greatly towards understanding how diabetes develops, how it might be prevented, and how it can best be treated and ultimately cured.
In 2011, she helped establish the new Diabetes and Obesity Research Institute at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where she serves as its Associate Director. Marilyn and her life partner Karen Shanbrom live in Eagle Rock. Marilyn was a founding member of Congregation Kol Ami, and has served as Vice-President, Secretary, member of the Board of Trustees, chair of Professional Practices Committee, and a member of the Ritual, Membership, Budget/Finance, and Communications Committees.
Michael Becker, a native of Philadelphia, is a working artist and photographer in Los Angeles. He received Bachelor degrees in Art and in Sociology as well as a Doctorate of Jurisprudence from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. In 1998, he retired from a successful career in trust administration and banking after serving as the president of the Los Angeles Trust Officers Association. He has since focused on his art career, becoming a leader in the Jewish and LGBT art scenes in Los Angeles. His work is an example to everyone who finds themselves on the margins of society, deemed too different or too extreme. His art celebrates the breaking of limits and recognizes the beauty inherent in diversity. Since joining Kol Ami, Michael has become our staunch supporter and ambassador to Foundations, organizations, potential supporters and members throughout Los Angeles. We deeply appreciate his ongoing efforts to bring Kol Ami to the next level.

At the June 26th performance of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, apt for its story about two great Jewish writing duos, we'll be honoring Allan Rich and Jud Friedman as recipients of the Allan Rich Award for Exemplary Achievement in the Arts and Humanities!
Allan Rich and Jud Friedman are Kol Ami's first ever recipients of the Allan Rich Award for Exemplary Achievement in the Arts and Humanities. Their 25 year career filled with massive hits and numerous awards is a lasting example of Jewish artistic brilliance.
In 1989, their very first collaboration became the #1 hit, James Ingram's "I Don't Have the Heart." They followed that achievement with the incomparable success of penning Whitney Houston's "Run to You" for the movie The Bodyguard. "Run to You" earned them an Oscar nomination and a Grammy.
Proving that lightening can absolutely strike more than once, they went on to write "For the First Time" which Kenny Loggins recorded for George Clooney's film One Fine Day. The song received yet another Oscar nomination, Grammy nomination and a nomination for a Golden Globe.
Artists such as Barbra Streisand, Ray Charles, Tina Turner, Rod Stewart, Leann Rimes, Chaka Khan, N'Sync and more have recorded their songs, earning the two writers over two decades of distinction and success.
