KOL AMI'S HANUKKAH FUNDRAISER KICK OFF PARTY
Saturday, December 5th, 2015
4 PM to 6 PM
At a private residence in Studio City.
(Address given upon ticket purchase.)

1 ticket for $65 or 2 tickets for $100

Join us for cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and a musical performance by the great jazz musician, Jennifer Leitham

Our Hanukkah Party will be a great night spent with friends under the stars. In addition, the party is also the kick-off event for our annual Hanukkah Candle Campaign. We hope you'll attend and consider donating to the Candle of your choice. Your donations will light up Kol Ami's future.

Our tradition teaches that tzedakah is a personal expression of righteousness and a way to say thank you to God for the goodness in our lives. At this time of re-dedication, we ask you to help re-dedicate Kol Ami so that we can stand proudly in 2016. Our goal is to raise $1,800 for each candle in the menorah. Light a candle by becoming a donor.

Please donate to whichever candle speaks you to in your life, either what you give thanks for having, or what you want to invite more of into your or a loved one's life.

The candles are Hope, Love, Compassion, Tolerance, Justice, Faith, Kindness and Equality and they will be celebrated in that order, one for each night of Hanukkah. The Candle of Peace represents the shamash candle (which is used to light the other candles) and will be celebrated, along with Hope, on the first night of Hanukkah.

This year, we will also be donating tzedakah to  Children's Hospital of Los Angeles Center for Transyouth Health and Development. We're excited to be sharing the light of the season with such an amazing organization.

Pillar 3 is happy to announce the first of their Potluck Havadallahs!

We are often called the People of the Book, but with so many Jewish texts it seems that "the People of the Bookcase" may be more accurate.  Learn the basics of four of the most important Jewish texts through 90 minute readings and open discussions. . ** All the training needed will be provided in class.**

"We had fun chatting with one another, snacked on some delicious treats,
discovered amazing insight into the minds of the ancient rabbis and
learned some fascinating understandings of the power of names
and the magic of flying hebrew letters (yep, flying hebrew letters!).
We told stories, learned some Torah, did a little Hebrew skill building
and most of all got inspired by our tradition!"
- A member's observation on first class in this series

Join Student Rabbi Michael Shefrin for a energetic, interactive, humorous, fun and informal discussion of the Talmud. The Talmud with its many laws has challenged Jews throughout time. Do you know that the Talmud challenges itself? For those who love to debate, the Talmud is a veritable party.

Together, we'll dare to dive into the argument and look at the many perspectives of Jewish Law. You'll walk out of this class with a smile on your face and more facts than you'll know what to do with.

This class is free and open to all. We'll be meeting at Kol Ami at 1200 N. La Brea Ave.

This is a riveting novel about a conflicted young Orthodox Jewish girl growing up in the late '50s in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. She faces two problems: the highly restrictive rituals of a rigid family and the condescending attitude of the Williamsburg Orthodox world toward girls.

Her awakening and breaking of the chains holding her down is the focus of the book. Rose, the older of two daughters, seems to become aware of gender prejudice at the age of four when she attempts to repeat the blessing her father is making over wine at the seder. Instead of being charmed by this four-year-old's attempt to recite a prayer, the family is outraged.

Kol Ami is proud to be contributing again to the Feast of Love Thanksgiving Dinner at Triangle Square. Call today with your commitment of a warm meal for the people in our community who need it most.

Call Stacy at 323-606-0996 or email staff@kol-ami.org.
