Join Student Rabbi Michael Shefrin on Saturday, November 7th, 2015 at 10:00 AM for the first of our new Saturday Shabbats!

These new services are a exciting sign of Kol Ami's growing community!

Rabbi Denise L. Eger fearlessly takes on big issues, whether it concerns the Jewish world, the nation or our home in Los Angeles. The series, Conversations with Rabbi Eger, provides the public with a front row seat to a behind-the-scenes discussion with some of today's most influential figures. Be there as they talk with rare frankness about topics that hit close to home.

On November 12th, 2015 at 7:30 PM, Rabbi Eger will welcome the Hon. John Pérez, Speaker Emeritus of the California State Assembly. They will be discussing the growing power of the Latino vote and its impact on Los Angeles, building relations between the Jewish and Latino community and the complex, controversial points of immigration reform.

This series is free and open to the public. RSVP is requested.

SPECIAL NOTICE OF SHABBAT TIME CHANGE

On November 13th, we are proud to be hosting both Minnie Hadley-Hempstead, President of NAACPLA and Keshia Thomas, a prominent activist and Human Rights speaker at our Shabbat Service.

Services will begin 30 minutes early, at 7:30 PM instead of 8 PM, to allow time for this important discussion.
Due to a generous Kol Ami supporter, this retreat is now offered at no charge.

This is a riveting novel about a conflicted young Orthodox Jewish girl growing up in the late '50s in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. She faces two problems: the highly restrictive rituals of a rigid family and the condescending attitude of the Williamsburg Orthodox world toward girls.
Her awakening and breaking of the chains holding her down is the focus of the book. Rose, the older of two daughters, seems to become aware of gender prejudice at the age of four when she attempts to repeat the blessing her father is making over wine at the seder. Instead of being charmed by this four-year-old's attempt to recite a prayer, the family is outraged.
