We are often called the People of the Book, but with so many Jewish texts it seems that "the People of the Bookcase" may be more accurate. Learn the basics of four of the most important Jewish texts through 90 minute readings and open discussions. Walk through the doorway to a richer and more meaningful Jewish life and get a grip on the entire Jewish bookcase. ** All the training needed will be provided in class.**
Join Student Rabbi Michael Shefrin for a energetic, interactive, humorous, fun and informal swan dive into the Midrash, "the Disney Movie of Jewish Literature." The stories of Jewish heroes and heroines fill in some of the bigger holes in the Torah as well delight those both new to and experienced with Jewish texts. A playful look at the mystical use of math rounds out the class and leaves you feeling on the brink of discovering a whole new world - if you only just looked a bit closer.
These classes take place at 1200 N. La Brea and are free and open to all. Please RSVP to staff@kol-ami.org or call 323-606-0996.

Jeremy Gimbel's film, HATIKVAH, is the Jewish documentary of the year. Through an honest and thoughtful inspection of people's perceptions and connections to Israel's National Athem, Gimbel reveals a delicately nuanced story of a Jewish people, living under different flags in different countries, striving to define their relationship with Israel.
Simple questions lead to complex answers as the knotted threads of Jewish history, culture, family, politics and legacies are teased apart by Jews from all walks of life. HATIKVAH will leave viewers a little raw, a little challenged and extremely inspired. It's the kind of film you carry around with you for months.
Saturday, October 24th at 7:30 PM at 1200 N. La Brea. This screening is free and open to all. We will also be having havdalah. RSVP to staff@kol-ami.org or 323-606-0996.
