Please join us for services this Friday Night, April 10th, at 8 PM.

Kol Ami is honoring our SOVA volunteers for their enduring dedication to giving their time at SOVA. Their work in our community is an inspiration to the entire congregation. Their volunteerism is an embodiment of our Jewish values and encourages our community to strive for Tikkun Olam.

We will be holding a special  donation drive for SOVA to commemorate this event. SOVA needs canned tuna, canned pasta, cold cereal, and peanut butter.  They also always need personal toiletries such as shampoo, toothpaste, body lotion, disposable razors, deodorant. Please consider bringing a donation with you to services.

You too, can easily volunteer at SOVA!

Kol Ami meets at SOVA the 2nd Sunday of each month.

Our next meeting is: April 12th  at 8:30 AM - 12 PM at 1140 N. La Brea

Please email Ed Casson at: ecasson@gmail.com if you are interested in volunteering.  Thank you, and remember, SOVA is here to serve you if you are in need.  Visit their website at jfsla.org/sova.
Join us on April 18th as we see the Dead Sea Scrolls in person! We'll be meeting at Kol Ami, eating a light brunch together, taking a chartered bus to the California Science Center, viewing the Dead Sea Scroll exhibit as well as Jerusalem 3D in IMAX, (don't worry we're definitely fitting in time to see Endeavor in all its glory) and then it's back home to Kol Ami.  Seeing the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit will never be easier than this!

April 18th, 2015
10 AM to roughly 4 PM
The cost is $45 per person.
Be sure to get your tickets while they're still available!

Get your tickets online or call 323-606-0996.

$1000 donated to Jewish World Watch can....

  • Provide 66 Congolese women with a year of obstetric, reproductive and other medical care.
  • Provide 25 Darfuri refugee families with a year of solar cooking
  • Provide 200 Congolese men with the tools to treat women respectfully

Join Congregation Kol Ami's team for the walk in Pan Pacific Park on April 19, 2015. If you can't attend, you can be a virtual walker. If walking isn't your thing, then you can just plain donate and help us reach our goal of $1,800.

Our Lunch and Learns focus on Jewish law and ethics and how to apply them to contemporary issues. Lunch and drinks are provided. These sessions are held at:

"Impressive . . . Soffer's style is natural and assured." -Meg Wolitzer, All Things Considered, NPR

Lorca spends her life poring over cookbooks to earn the love of her distracted mother, a chef, who is now packing her off to boarding school. Desperate to prove herself, Lorca resolves to track down the recipe for her mother's ideal meal. She signs up for cooking lessons from Victoria, an Iraqi-Jewish immigrant profoundly shaken by her husband's death. Soon these two women develop a deeper bond while their concoctions-cardamom pistachio cookies, baklava, and masgouf-bake in Victoria's kitchen. But their individual endeavors force a reckoning with the past, the future, and the truth-whatever it might be.

In Tomorrow There Will Be Apricots,we see how food sustains not just our bodies, but our hopes as well. "Bukra fil mish mish," the Arabic saying goes, "Tomorrow, apricots may bloom."

ARZA: Representing Reform Judaism urgently needs your vote! Voting closes on April 30th, 2015.

"During this week of Chesed let us not only count the days, but make our days count. The Kabbalists recommended that today, Netzach she b'Chesed, on the day of the Enduringness of Kindness, we should do something that fights for or protects a loved one. Today we should fight for something that is worth fighting for: and that is Israel. The soul of the Jewish State is at stake here, and if we don't fight, if we don't rise up and make our voices count, a great deal could be lost." - Rabbi Josh Weinberg
