Dear Kol Ami community,
Perhaps you have read the headlines about upcoming election in Israel.
The Knesset has dissolved. And the Prime Minister has called for new elections in March. Unless you hold Israeli citizenship you will not be able to vote in those elections.
However, you can shape the future of Israel. You can vote in the upcoming World Zionist Organization Congress elections which begin January 15. This is the Jewish Parliament and the same meeting that Theodor Herzel helped establish the dream of a future state of Israel back in 1897 in Basel Switzerland. This is the first time in ten years that there have been WZO elections.
The WZO elections are critical. There are millions of dollars in support at stake. The number of Reform Delegates we elect will then sit on the boards and committees of the Jewish Agency (Sachnoot) that is a quasi-governmental Israeli agency that gives out millions of dollars in financial support. Our Reform Jewish success in these
elections could translate into more than 20 million dollars for Reform congregations and communities in Israel including IRAC, the Israel Religion Action Center, that provides support for Women at the Wall, LGBT Israel, Equality for Bedouins and fight for equality for Reform and Conservative Jews in Israel. With your vote in these elections, you can help Israel become the Israel we dream of - a place that makes
peace and leads in equality for all.
We need you to vote! If you care about Israel and want to preserve a Jewish Democratic Israel where Reform and Progressive Judaism have a real voice then we will need you to vote. Please pledge to vote. ARZA, the Association of Reform Zionists, will help you when voting opens.
You will pledge to vote and ARZA will send you the link when it's time to vote. It does
cost $10 a vote to help finance the election. Any Jew can vote. You do not have to be a member of our synagogue or any organization. Please help fulfill Herzel's dream and ours of an Israel that reflects progressive Jewish values.

Light a Hannukah candle by becoming a donor now.
Hannukah celebrates one of the times in our Jewish calendar, when the Divine intervenes in the life of the Jewish people. This mystical intervention - the light, the oil - lasted throughout the Maccabees' celebration of freedom. Miracles do manifest when we call forth Divine intervention.
This year, each night of Hannukah is dedicated to one of the aspects of the Divine on the Kabbalistic Tree of Life; for the miracle of Hannukah came about as the prophet Zechariah wrote, "Not by might, not by power, but by My Spirit alone."
Yesod - the foundation of the world - the Candle of Peace.
Hochmah - equality born of wisdom and truth - the Candle of Equality
Binah - the hope born of understanding - the Candle of Hope.
Hod - the Voice of God through communication - the Candle of Love.
Chesed - mercy and compassion, the practice of forgiveness and renewal - the Candle of Compassion
Daat - knowledge gained through self-reflection - the Candle of Tolerance.
Netzach - the realization of the Divine through our intuitive connection - the Candle of Justice.
Gevurah - the experience of reverence - the Candle of Faith.
Terferet - truth and the acceptance of God's Will - the Candle of Kindness.
When all candles are lit, the unity of the nine candles brings about all ten aspects of the Divine. This is Malchut, when spirit and matter become united and the Divine Presence enters the world.
We ask you to give your support in honor of the Divine aspect that you wish to evoke this Hannukah. Please donate to whichever candle speaks to you in your life right now, either what you give thanks for having, or the Divine intervention you want to invite into your own or a loved one's life.
Our goal is to raise $10,000 by the end of the year. Kol Ami's Board of Trustees has already pledged to raise $2000 for our Peace Candle. The remaining candles represent a $1000 dollars each. Light a Hannukah candle by becoming a donor now.
Now is the perfect time to donate marketable, appreciated securities. Or, if you or a family member are at least 70 1/2 and have not taken the taxable, Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) from your IRA, your IRA Administrator can direct a gift from the IRA to Kol Ami, reducing your taxable income. Call the office at 323-606-0996 for details.
