Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and Kol Ami is pleased to partner with Metropolitan Community Church, the Center and the Gay Men's Chorus to provide Thanksgiving for our LGBT seniors at Triangle Square. There is still time for you to sign up!

If you can volunteer your time, or donate a pre-cooked side of green beans or better yet, a whole turkey, please click here. Food is most needed for the second sitting at 1 PM. You can drop off your donation, hot and ready to serve, at Triangle Square at 12 PM. Or stay to volunteer and give the gift of your time.

What is World AIDS Day?

World AIDS Day is held on December 1st, each year, and is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died. World AIDS Day was the first ever global health day and has been held annually since 1988.

Why is World AIDS Day important?

Around the world, an estimated 34 million people have HIV. More than 35 million people have died from the virus, making it one of the most destructive pandemics in history. Today, numerous scientific advances have been made in HIV treatment, there are laws to protect people living with HIV and so much more is understood about the condition.

Despite this progress, many people still do not know the facts about how to protect themselves and others from HIV. Stigma and discrimination remain a reality for people living with HIV. There is still no cure.

World AIDS Day is important as it reminds the world that HIV has not gone away. There is still a vital need to raise money, increase awareness, fight prejudice and improve education.

What should I do on World AIDS Day?

World AIDS Day is an opportunity for you to learn the facts about HIV. Find ways to show your solidarity with the 34 million people living with HIV. #PutARibbonOnIt

Kol Ami presents the Big Night Movie Event and Timpano!

Join us on December 2nd at 7 PM for nosh and the viewing of Big Night! This movie was not only Stanley Tucci's break out role, it was also the inspiration for a Timpano-cooking craze.  Mr. Tucci actually co-wrote and co-directed the film as well.  While he does prove his incredible talent, the mouth-watering Italian dish is the unspoken star of the movie and will have you craving pasta and meatballs for days.

Have your own real-life "Big Night" at Kol Ami's Timpano event!
Neil Romanoff, an extremely accomplished chef who has cooked with the best, is generously hosting a night of Timpano, the ultimate dinner treat! On January 17th, 2015, Neil is inviting twelve very lucky individuals into his home and will teach them how to prepare Timpano from scratch.  It is truly a once in a lifetime cooking experience! The silent auction for these twelve exclusive spots will kick off December 2nd at the Big Night Movie Event.

Join Congregation Kol Ami, A Wider Bridge and JQ International for a reception recognizing the leadership of Israel's pioneer LGBT organization, the Aguda. Co-Chair Chen Arieli and CEO Oded Frid will share the 2014 LGBT Israeli experience and discuss the important work of the Aguda - tackling the hot topic today in Israeli LGBT advocacy - from surrogacy to marriage recognition to transgender equality.

This is a free event. Please RSVP to Tyler Gregory at tyler@awiderbridge.org or call 1-866-288-5774 ext. 2

Light a Hannukah candle by becoming a donor now.

Hannukah celebrates one of the times in our Jewish calendar, when the Divine intervenes in the life of the Jewish people. This mystical intervention - the light, the oil - lasted throughout the Maccabees' celebration of freedom. Miracles do manifest when we call forth Divine intervention.

This year, each night of Hannukah is dedicated to one of the aspects of the Divine on the Kabbalistic Tree of Life; for the miracle of Hannukah came about as the prophet Zechariah wrote, "Not by might, not by power, but by My Spirit alone."

Yesod - the foundation of the world is our beginning, the Candle of Peace.

Binah - the hope born of understanding is our first night, the Candle of Hope.

Hod - the Voice of God through communication is our second night, the Candle of Love.

Chesed - mercy and compassion, the practice of forgiveness and renewal is the third night, the Candle of Compassion.

Daat - knowledge gained through self-reflection is our fourth night, the Candle of Tolerance.

Netzach - the realization of the Divine through our intuitive connection is the fifth night, the Candle of Justice.

Gevurah - the experience of reverence is our sixth night, the Candle of Faith.

Terfereth - truth and the acceptance of God's Will is our seventh night, the Candle of Kindness.

Hochmah - equality born of wisdom and truth is our eighth night, the Candle of Equality.

When all candles are lit, the unity of the nine candles brings about all ten aspects of the Divine. This is Malchut, when spirit and matter become united and the Divine Presence enters the world.

We ask you to give your support in honor of the Divine aspect that you wish to evoke this Hannukah. Please donate to whichever candle speaks to you in your life right now, either what you give thanks for having, or the Divine intervention you want to invite into your own or a loved one's life.

Our goal is to raise $10,000 by the end of the year. Kol Ami's Board of Trustees has already pledged to raise $2000 for our Peace Candle. The remaining candles represent a $1000 dollars each. Light a Hannukah candle by becoming a donor now.

Save the Date!

Mark your calendars for Friday, December 19th. Kol Ami will be having our annual Hannukah Party and Services at the synagogue starting at 7 pm.  There will be latkes, Hannukah Gelt and our traditional communal menorah lighting outside under the stars.
