The news from Israel over the last several weeks has been disheartening. And yesterday's violent terrorist attack in a Har Nof synagogue in West Jerusalem during morning prayers was despicable. Four Rabbis, three Americans and one British, and a police officer were murdered in cold blood and many others wounded with gun shots, and severed limbs from the meat cleaver the two Palestinian terrorists wielded. May the memories of those murdered be a blessing to humanity. We mourn with their families.
Jerusalem and Tel Aviv have each experienced several terrorist attacks seemingly encouraged by both Hamas and the PA in recent weeks. If you have been wondering what you can do, I want to offer you the opportunity to join me March 1-3 in Washington, D.C. at the AIPAC Policy Conference. The American Israel Public Affairs Committee works eve ry day to strengthen the ties between Israel and the United States. You participation and turn-out w ill help send a signal to our elected officials of both parties that we believe in a strong U.S.-Israel relationship. At the conference you will hear speakers from Congress and the Knesset. You will hear from both the US Administration and the Israeli Cabinet. You will hear about the amazing innovations from the Israeli technology sector and learn about advances in science and medicine from Israel's research labs! You will have a chance to lobby Congress and especially as the US is in the final stages this month of negotiating with Iran over its nuclear policy you will have a front row seat to the implications of any deal that might be made. I am already registered. I care deeply about Israel and its people. I care deeply about ensuring a strong US-Israel relationship. I care deeply about democracy at home and in Israel. I care deeply about my family. Israel is my family.
Join the more than 15,000 delegates who will gather together this March for three of the most inspiring days you will spend. If you care about Israel, as I know you do, join with me for this amazing opportunity. Here is the link to register for the conference. While we are there together we will gather for a couple of meals to process and unpack what we have learned, and when we come home to Kol Ami we will be able to engage in supporting Israel and sharing with our fellow congregants our own enthusiasm and hopefully enlisting them in supporting a democratic, Jewish Israel with strong ties to the United States. Enjoy this video that explains why these Progressive Rabbis (including me) love Israel and why they support AIPAC.

November is Transgender Awareness Month. The Transgender Day of Remembrance is meant to memorialize those who were killed due to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice. The event is held in November to honor Rita Hester, whose murder on November 28th, 1998 kicked off the " Remembering Our Dead" web site and a San Francisco candlelight vigil in 1999.
The Transgender Day of Remembrance raises public awareness of hate crimes against transgender people, mourns and honors the lives of those who might otherwise be forgotten and most importantly, the Transgender Day of Remembrance gives LGBT people and our allies the opportunity for a national expression of love and respect for transgender people.
On November 20th, join the community at the West Hollywood Library Autocourt to stand in vigil, memorializing those who have died because of anti-transgender violence. And on Friday, November 21st, please join us at services for special prayers honoring Transgender Day of Remembrance.

Join Us for a Night of Great Theater
There have been years of speculation about the long-term relationship between Eleanor Roosevelt and the journalist Lorena Hickok. If you've never read their 30+ years of letters to one another, now's the time to see another side of the First Lady! So far, we have 26 Kol Ami members and their friends attending! Don't miss out on this fun night! Tickets are $10 at the door; no reservations, first come first seated so please plan on arriving early.

Kol Ami is pleased to partner with Metropolitan Community Church, the Center and the Gay Men's Chorus to provide Thanksgiving for our LGBT seniors at Triangle Square. Don Margolin is generously coordinating our participation. Don attends Kol Ami regularly and is a monthly volunteer at SOVA (he also chairs Game Night at Triangle Square on the third Thursday of every month).
The 2014 Thanksgiving "Feast of Love" needs all our volunteers to help set up, prepare, serve and clean up for two back-to-back Thanksgiving dinners. We're also asking for you to please donate prepared dishes for the Thanksgiving meals. If you can volunteer your time, or donate a pre-cooked side of green beans or better yet, a whole turkey, please click here. (If you want to cook together at Kol Ami before Thanksgiving, please let Don know).

Kol Ami presents the Big Night Movie Event and Timpano!
Join us on December 2nd at 7 PM for nosh and the viewing of Big Night! This movie was not only Stanley Tucci's break out role, it was also the inspiration for a Timpano-cooking craze. Mr. Tucci actually co-wrote and co-directed the film as well. While he does prove his incredible talent, the mouth-watering Italian dish is the unspoken star of the movie and will have you craving pasta and meatballs for days.
Have your own real-life "Big Night" at Kol Ami's Timpano event!
Neil Romanoff, an extremely accomplished chef who has cooked with the best, is generously hosting a night of Timpano, the ultimate dinner treat! On January 17th, 2015, Neil is inviting twelve very lucky individuals into his home and will teach them how to prepare Timpano from scratch. It is truly a once in a lifetime cooking experience! The silent auction for these twelve exclusive spots will kick off December 2nd at the Big Night Movie Event.
