Greetings!
The last couple of weeks have been incredibly full here at Kol Ami - Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur brought the whole community together in beautiful ways. Then we gathered in the Sukkah - a fragile and vulnerable dwelling - reminding us how precious our families and homes are. Tonight we celebrate Simchat Torah together, as endings and beginnings intertwine, starting off the new year together at the beginning, with the very first words of the Torah. We are so excited about this upcoming year! Whether here, on Facebook, twitter, or the website, you'll find an incredible array of classes, programs and opportunities to gather and celebrate as a community.
I invite you to keep alive the wonderful feelings and momentum of the High Holy Days. We're here all 52 weeks of the year - come learn, pray, and celebrate together. Do you want to go to the WEHO Halloween Carnival together? Find friends who want to make art or read poetry? Have a wine tasting? Join us for the Pillar 1 meeting on Tuesday the 21st at 7pm to plan new events.
We're constantly working on improvements here - please let me know how we can make Kol Ami a better home for you - give me a call or email me your questions, ideas, and what you'd like to work on creating in year ahead.
Chag Sameach,
Sadie

Is Religion Getting Us To LGBTQ Equality?
Please join Rabbi Eger and other participants in a special community event, for the first "Queering the Conversation" educational panel discussion on Thursday, November 13, 2014.
It is our hope is that through this conversation we can mobilize the larger community to make our world a better place for LGBTQ and Allied people - to truly Tikkun Olam.
As an official Compassion Week 2014 event, our panel will be moderated by Consulting Advisor Lee Wind, M.Ed. and will include the following confirmed participants:
* Ani Zonneveld (Founder/President - Muslims for Progressive Values)
* Mel White (Founder, Soulforce Religious Advocacy Organization)
* Rabbi Denise Eger (Founder, Congregation Kol Ami)
* Reverend Troy Perry (Founder, Metropolitan Community Church)
This event will be held at the Founders Metropolitan Community Church and asks:
* What is our purpose as LGBTQ and Allied people?
* Do we have a higher calling?
* What are the tipping points that bring religious communities through (or to?) 'tolerance,' 'acceptance,' and ultimately to celebrating our queer lives and relationships?
* And what can we do - both as individuals and as a cross-faith spiritual community - to create LGBTQ-positive change?
The evening will begin with a reception from 7:00pm-7:30pm, followed by the panel and audience Q&A from 7:30pm-9:00pm. We've kept this a free event with a $10 suggested donation.
