Trip report: excellent home swap in East London
|
 "James and Maria have a lovely home not far from London's Bethnal Green tube station. Their home is on two levels with two sitting rooms and was surprisingly quiet. We arrived to find a welcome bottle of wine in the fridge, useful instructions on how everything worked and some lovely ideas for places to eat and visit in the area.
We walked to Brick Lane for a meal the first night, and found the area buzzing with activity. On Sunday morning we walked to Columbia Road for breakfast and a look around the flower market. We were lucky to have great weather and so walked to Victoria Park for a picnic. The area has so much going on and was easy to get around by bus, tube and train, as well as plenty nearby to visit on foot." - Rachael

Home swap Q&A: swapping cars during an exchange
|
Q: If I swap with someone in another country is it possible to also swap cars? Would I be able to put the other party on my existing car insurance? - Tina, Devon, England
A: Most Guardian Home Exchange members do not report problems having an additional driver temporarily added to their current insurance. We have however had reports of some insurance companies refusing to cover visitors from outside the UK/Europe (and also there can be age restrictions). Do check with your insurance company before agreeing to include your car as part of a home exchange agreement. Some members refused cover by their insurers have instead agreed to split the cost of a car rental for the duration or part duration of the exchange; although this does add an additional cost it can be offset by large savings enjoyed by swapping homes.
