"The exchange with Vicky and Matt was a big success. We felt instantly welcome at their home - they left dinner for us as well as homemade beer and elderflower cordial, and we sat in the lovely garden to eat and enjoy the summer evening - what more could you ask for? The two weeks went really fast as we visited Leeds, York, Harrogate, quaint villages, wonderful estate homes... we went as far as Whitby and Robin Hood Bay and it was worth the trip - the Dales are fantastic, a truly rural landscape to explore..." The January issue of Living France magazine is now out and includes an article on home swapping, along with a Q & A section by Home Base Holidays.

Long-time Home Base Holidays member, Bridget Poher, was interviewed for the article about her family's home exchange experiences. Bridget, originally from Hampshire, lives in her Loire Valley home with her Parisian husband Yves and their children (click here to see her home swap offer).

Bridget comments in the interview: "I have been absolutely bowled over with how people really are very kind. If you are feeling tired of humanity, home-exchanging is an incredibly uplifting experience." Bridget tells the story about a childless couple in Fort Myers, Florida who borrowed two bicycles from neighbours for her two sons and purchased a bike and helmet for her daughter so she wouldn't be left out. "The key to their million-dollar home was under the mat. Those kinds of experiences make you think, yes, people are genuinely pleasant, kind, and willing to welcome strangers."
