Dr. Rishi Bala attended James Madison University for his undergraduate degree. He received his medical degree from the University of Silesia Medical School located in Poland and completed his family medicine residency at Bon Secours St. Francis Family Medicine Residency Program/Virginia Commonwealth University. Dr. Bala is board certified in family medicine.

In addition, Dr. Bala completed a sports medicine fellowship from Fairfax Family Medicine Residency and Sports Medicine. Dr. Bala has worked with the Washington Redskins, Washington Nationals, multiple collegiate teams and high schools as the team doctor.

What do you enjoy most about being a family medicine provider focused on sports medicine?
What I enjoy most is the balance of sports medicine while still keeping my family medicine patients that I have established over the years. This also gives me the ability to perform longitudinal care for a patient I see in a PCP role who may incur a musculoskeletal injury.

Why did you choose Bon Secours Health System?
I chose Bon Secours Health System because this company recognizes the importance of bringing "Good Help to Those in Need" and allows me the unique opportunity to do so. This mission aligns with my own and permits us to help the whole community without the constraints that are normally seen. This is particularly evident with our community outreach programs that provide sports physicals to the underserved population of Richmond. Furthermore, at Bon Secours Sports Medicine and Primary Care, I have the ability to care for adults and children in both a traditional family and sports medicine role.

What do you enjoy outside of work?
My wife and I love the outdoors and have always enjoyed camping trips and spending time on the water to fish and kayak. This year, with a newborn, we are looking forward to more local trips and spending time with our friends and family in the city. In the colder months, we like to hit the slopes or catch an ice hockey game.
