Get Ideas for Your Next Landscaping Project on the Water-Wise Landscape Tour
Bring your camera and notepad to the Fall Water-Wise Landscape Tour on Saturday, Oct. 3. Five Plano residences and the Environmental Education Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for you to explore the gardens and be inspired. Plants will be identified with signs to help you note your favorites and volunteers will be at each site to help with questions. Every garden is a little different, and these are not the same homes that were on the Spring tour. Visit the Environmental Education Center at 4116 W. Plano Parkway for giveaways and refreshments. Here, you can also "Ask the Experts" for advice on irrigation and landscaping. Watch the monarch butterfly migration in the Center's Texas SmartScape butterfly garden. Tour maps and handouts about each home's landscaping, as well as lists of recommended plants are available through plano.gov/water.
Visit Your Neighborhood Plano Fire Station on Oct. 8
Grab the kiddos and head over to your nearby Plano Fire Station for a tour on Thursday, Oct. 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. It's Fire Prevention Week and we are hosting the Plano Fire Station Open House. The theme is "Hear the Beep Where You Sleep." At each station, your family will learn smoke alarm basics and how to make a smart escape. Half of all home fire deaths result from fires reported between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. when most of us are asleep. We want our children to be familiar with the fire station and what to expect should a firefighter ever need to come to their assistance. In Plano, we have 13 Fire Stations and all are open to your family on this special Thursday night. Find the station near you with the online interactive map (stations are red). Learn more about Fire Prevention Week at firepreventionweek.org and follow the Plano Fire-Rescue's Facebook page.
