Appraising Railroad Corridors for Recreational Trail Use
Original Article - Jeffrey K. Jones, MAI Letter to the Editor in Response - Charles W. Rex III, MAI and Cameron R. Rex, MAI GISP
For the Winter 2014 edition of The Appraisal Journal, ARDA members Charles "Sandy" Rex and Cameron Rex offered their thoughts on a Summer 2014 article titled "Appraising Railroad Corridors for Recreational Trail Use." Together they challenged the notion that it is not possible for a rails-to-trails corridor to represent the highest and best use as a corridor. They also dissect the author's argument that across the fence (ATF) valuation methodologies are being incorrectly applied in rails-to-trails transactions.
The Appraisal Institute is generously allowing ARDA newsletter readers access to the original article and subsequent comments by Charles and Cameron Rex and the article's author Jeffrey K. Jones. A balance of programs and interests has been the norm covering environmental, industrial development, business development, real estate, technology and law issues.
