A promising new leadership model

As one might expect, the arrival of PeaceHealth's first Chief Operating Officer, Beth O'Brien, RN, means immediate changes for our organization.

In several important ways, these changes will be positive for PHMG. Beth recognizes that sustaining the PeaceHealth mission depends upon our ability as a medical group to succeed. It is clear that there will be a significant focus on the growth and strength of PHMG. That means:
  • More resources for the expansion of PHMG practices
  • Support of our quality efforts and optimization of our EMR (recently renamed "CareConnect")
  • More autonomy for PHMG within the system
  • Creation of a stronger branding and marketing presence within our communities

In short, we'll be less shy about promoting our services and have a more competitive stance.

Beth also is making changes in leadership at the system level. She's adding the roles of Chief Medical Officer and Chief Nursing Officer to further emphasize the clinical perspective at the very top of PeaceHealth. (See the organizational chart and the visual for our CareTogether model that Beth presented this week.)

These roles will oversee quality initiatives and other activities across our communities. Ultimately these leaders will help strengthen the link between the medical centers and our practices.

Another new role, Senior Vice President for Payer Strategy, is being created. This leader will come from the insurance side of our world and will oversee our evolution to the pay for value world so we are capable of taking risk and prospering in that environment.

There are other changes in the works as well and I wanted to highlight these in particular. I am very optimistic about our future together under our new leadership model and look forward to working with all of you as we realize PeaceHealth's full potential together.
