This past week we successfully went through our first major upgrade to Epic that brings our system to the latest version. These upgrades generally occur every two years as they deliver improvements and new features.
We're excited to implement "Epic 2014" within our ambulatory setting, especially with the enhancements that increase efficiencies for providers and caregivers. The new chart search tool is a welcome addition (remember it will take up to 30 days to completely index a chart). Providers and caregivers will also notice new shortcuts for managing inbasket messages, as well as the ability to customize tabs.
As with any software upgrade, there have been a few bugs that are being addressed quickly by our team and those at Epic. We recognize the confusion around the "Mark as Reviewed" button, as well as the preliminary and final imaging overlay issue.
Upcoming refresher courses and "Thrive After Live" are part of our on-going effort to assist you all and to help you get the most out of the tools. Additionally, the new Epic Service Desk is up and running as a first-line of support for all your questions.
Our Epic Ambulatory support and training teams have worked tirelessly before and during this process. I'm grateful for their 15 in-person and Lync education sessions prior to go live. The relatively smooth upgrade is a testament to their and your efforts.
Thank you for your continued perseverance in working with Epic. Based on the volume of help tickets, it appears we're making progress with the system. We hope the improvements help make your day-to-day work in the program a little easier.
