Being a physician-led medical group means providers are engaged as members of the group and help guide the present activity and future direction. The deeper we get into the newly reformed health care environment, the more we will need each other.
In order for PHMG to make headway in key areas, it's imperative for providers to participate in the planning and implementation of processes for our practices.
Clinical Advisory Councils (CACs) exist to collect input from practitioners in each community and ensure that different perspectives are taken into account, as well as to discuss and disseminate information about MGLT decisions. CACs in each network monitor and evaluate the quality of care delivered by PHMG through local input, provider engagement and allocation of resources.
In the article below, Dr. Sharpe highlights a new CACs charter based on feedback from local councils. It's this kind of dialogue that will help advance PHMG in service to our patients and communities.
Speaking of feedback and letting your voice be heard, the Pulse Survey starts next week. Watch for more details soon.

Clinical Advisory Councils Charter
|
by Karen Sharpe, MD, Medical Director for Primary Care
|
 | Dr. Karen Sharpe |
Recent meetings with CAC members and Medical Directors revealed ambiguity regarding the scope and authority of the CACs and also that provider members weren't clear on the impact of their voice in the direction and priorities of the group. Input was received and the CAC charters were combined and standardized, thereby clearly spelling out the role and influence of the councils as well as how and when policies and actions proposed by MGLT should be reviewed by them. As a result and in an effort to provide sound organizational structure within CACs, the following are now in place:
- New Clinical Advisory Councils Charter
- MGLT agenda items are sent to the CACs for discussion and input, prior to implementation where feasible
- System medical directors and CAC chairs set agendas together including common topics across the three networks
- Standardized appointed membership including members from all network communities, patients and administrators
- Quality is a subcommittee of all CACs
These updates will improve provider engagement and create a clearer method of communication across the organization. This structure will also ensure the councils effectively operate as an ongoing component of the Quality Improvement Plan. For more information, please contact me at KSharpe@peacehealth.org.
