I received an exciting report this week that our pilot of the Dragon voice recognition program is off to a strong start.
According to Lori Charlton, program manager for Epic optimization & workflow, 20 providers are now trained on Dragon and ready to go with Longview's Epic go-live on December 1. Those who have volunteered to test the system have great things to say, so far:
- "Dragon templates are going to make Epic so much easier and efficient."
- "Double thumbs up"
- "Dragon has come a long way in 15 years. This is pretty cool."
- "This is really impressive, like Suri (voice-based smartphone feature) on steroids."
Since it's still early, I'll wait to share more details next month. However, I wanted to give a glimpse of something that has the potential for making our providers' practices a little easier. Anything to ease the burden on our clinicians is a good thing and will be on my "most thankful for" list at the Thanksgiving table next week. My wife and I are looking forward to having three of our five children join us for the traditional turkey-centric meal (with accommodations for two vegetarians in the clan). My primary contributions to the day will be stoking the fire, eating and washing the dishes. Whatever your tradition, I wish you an enjoyable time with family and friends. For those of you who have to work over the holiday, I hope you find a special way to celebrate and an extra helping of your favorite dish waiting at home. And best wishes to our colleagues in Longview with their Epic launch that weekend. No PHMG Weekly next Friday due to the holiday.
