Question: Will PeaceHealth still offer financial assistance (Bridge)? Answer: The majority of people will have options through Medicaid and/or coverage offered through the exchanges. PeaceHealth will continue to offer financial assistance (Bridge) for patients who are not eligible for Medicaid or commercial coverage through an exchange. We will also offer financial help for insured patients with insurance, but who have low income and need assistance with out-of-pocket costs for services. (You can find more answers to questions on the Bridge program in the FAQ.)Submit your question

This has been something of an historic week with the opening of state health care exchanges on Oct. 1. With the Affordable Care Act (ACA) now in full swing, we will soon see set in motion some of the forces of change that until the present, we've only been talking about. What the ACA and exchanges mean to PeaceHealth and the medical group, in particular, will be something of an ongoing conversation. What are you, as caregivers and providers, seeing and hearing from the frontline? How much new demand will we see? How can we, as key players in our various markets, work with other providers in our communities to adjust capacity? No one will have all of the answers right out of the gate. We will need to work together to understand and respond. Below is a quick summary about the exchanges and resources to help you and your patients navigate the change. Two other milestones occurred this week:
- The US health-care industry is now less than a year from switching to the ICD10 coding system. (Read more.)
- PeaceHealth announced a new joint venture with The Vancouver Clinic in the Columbia Network. (See more below.)
We work in an exciting and evolving field. Thanks for your continued engagement.
Correction: In last week's message, Laura Macauley was incorrectly identified as Laurie. Sorry, Laura.

Resources To Help You Answer Patient Questions
|
Earlier this week, all PeaceHealth caregivers received a message about the new state health care exchanges. ( Read the full email.) Following are a few key points: - Insurance exchanges are online marketplaces where anyone can buy insurance coverage.
- Medicaid is expanding in Oregon and Washington, but not Alaska.
- The vast majority of our patients will have access to some form of health insurance.
You can find answers to many questions in the FAQ on health exchanges, Medicaid and PeaceHealth financial assistance. If you have additional questions, refer to the specially trained staff (see list in FAQ) or talk to your manager.

We Have a New Acronym - IPA
|
HINT: It Is Not a Beer
|
PeaceHealth recently formed a new IPA--independent practice association--with The Vancouver Clinic, a prominent multi-specialty medical group and network of clinics in southwest Washington. This is an especially exciting development for the Columbia Network that will allow both organizations to continue offering care locally to residents in our communities in a more coordinated fashion. It is also a great example of how PeaceHealth can align with other like-minded providers who embrace our shared vision and value to provide high-quality, affordable population-based care. Note: As one might expect, every acronym can have more than one meaning--even within the same field. With the new Washington Insurance Exchange and Affordable Care Act, IPA might also stand for In Person Assister--staff who help people sign up for insurance under ObamaCare. Because of the proliferation of acronyms (internally and externally), we'll be careful to spell out their meaning.
