Conundrum of Rising Costs
Pay for medications or for an upside-down mortgage? Sadly, patients increasingly have to make such choices. PHMG nephrologist in Longview, Dr. Majd Isreb, recently penned a guest column for the Oregonian on the issue using the story of colchicine.

Regular Policy Updates
PHMG's policy team is consolidating and updating policies for the group. The most recently completed policies are:

PeaceHealth Physicians & Providers,

Dr. Howard Graman
Congratulations to Dr. Maryanne Scott who will assume the duties of interim medical director for PHMG in the  northwest Washington communities. We're grateful to have her on board. We're also thankful that Dr. Peter Valenzuela will stay on until mid September to help with the transition and see the Northwest communities through the Epic go live.

One of our providers in Longview, Dr. Majd Isreb shared a piece he wrote recently for The Oregonian. It's a good articulation of the need to promulgate the values of social justice and stewardship. The more we (as physicians) speak out on behalf of our patients and the health care community, the better. Thanks, Dr. Isreb.

With next week being a holiday, there will be no PHMG Weekly on Friday, July 5.

Have a safe 4th.

Epic Update
Oregon West Hits "Solid Double" -- NW on Deck
In baseball terms, the communities in Oregon West hit a solid double with their Epic go-live on June 1, according to Dr. Mike Geist, co-lead of the project.

Similar descriptions were echoed by other leaders, summing up how well the providers, caregivers and leaders did with the transition to Epic in Cottage Grove, Creswell, Dexter, Eugene-Springfield and Junction City.

"We are very proud of how the network performed," Henry Veldman, vice president of PHMG operations, said. "There was nothing easy about this change so it has been especially inspiring to watch our teams work together and maintain positive attitudes through it all."

The next Epic go-live will happen on September 1 in the Northwest network and Oregon Cardiology. Leaders and super users in those communities and clinics will begin in-class education the week of July 8. Watch for more updates in the coming weeks.

Policy Standardization
Watch for Monthly Updates on Policy Work
Part of being a unified medical group is using a consistent approach to the work. While PHMG has some network-wide policies, a host of duplicate policies still exist.

With representation from every community, PHMG has a new policy group working to consolidate, streamline and update policies, and, as necessary, create new ones.

You can expect to see results of the policy group work in the Policy Spotlight (left column) monthly or as warranted.  Community-based policy coordinators will also disseminate information about new or revised policies. Questions can be directed to Susan Vaughan, director of PHMG Clinical Operations
