This Week's Q&A
Question: Will we be getting access to Epic's Haiku at some point?

Answer:  We plan to roll out Haiku (Epic's application for smartphones) and Canto (the app for tablets) sometime next year after we have completed all the roll-outs. In the meantime, providers can access Epic from their home PC or mobile device using Citrix or VPN. Instructions for remote access using Citrix have been distributed to all providers.

BIG CAVEAT:  Many of you will find there are ways to get an Epic session on your mobile device using Citrix or VPN.  Keep in mind that the Epic hyperspace screens are not designed to work on smaller screens. There are patient safety risks associated with not being able to see an entire screen correctly when doing something like ordering and our technology team may not be able to solve issues or  questions you have when you access Epic this way.

PeaceHealth Physicians & Providers,

Dr. Howard Graman
Leaders in the Eugene-area communities have shared that their teams are eager to get started with Epic.

Their go-live on the new record system starts tomorrow for a handful of clinics in Eugene, Springfield and Cottage Grove with the rest of the area's offices beginning to use Epic on Monday.

With this launch, more than 170 providers will join the ranks of Epic users. We appreciate the extra time and energy everyone has put into practicing their skills and setting preferences.

Thanks also to the Epic Provider Advisory Council members Drs. Lorne Bigley, Rick Kincade, Ramakoto Reddy for helping to lead this work in these communities.

For all of you in the Oregon West network, our thoughts and wishes are with you for as smooth of a go-live experience as possible.

Epic Update
Next Site Ready to Launch Epic
Several lessons learned from the first Epic go-live have helped prepare leaders, providers and other caregivers in the rest of Oregon West network clinics for their own launch of Epic this weekend and next week.

The May Epic News covers a few of those lessons and a preview of the second go-live. Among the key takeaways from Florence was the need for more clinical content. Since then, 140 SmartSets have been approved and will be moved to Production on June 1. The SmartSets for Eugene-Springfield-Cottage Grove can be previewed in PLY environment. (See the list.) Note:  SmartSets must be approved facility by facility.

Options for remote access to Epic have also been shared with providers in Oregon West. And a toggle button to move between patient records in Centricity Enterprise and Epic is being tested.

Other enhancements since the pilot include a growing number of tips and trick sheets on the Epic Education site.

Drs. Mike Geist and Jay Eisenberg and other members of the Epic Provider Advisory Council will be on hand to give at-the-elbow support to providers in the Eugene-area clinics in the days and weeks ahead.

Look for local super users and leaders to play a key role in answering questions and alerting the Epic team to issues that need attention.
