This Week's Q&A

Question:  Are any new tools being offered to support providers with Patient  Experience?

Answer:
This summer, experts from our vendor (NRC Picker) will be in each community, presenting updates on the CG-CAHPS survey, science of surveying, data reporting, our medical group performance and process improvement. The first sessions will be May 29 in Ketchikan and Bellingham. Providers, please watch for an invitation to your local session or visit the PHMG Patient Experience site.

PeaceHealth Physicians & Providers,

Dr. Howard Graman
It's been two weeks since the Epic go-live in Florence and support areas. We're pleased to see continued progress, particularly as we approach the next go-live in the rest of the Oregon West network. (Congratulations, by the way, to our Oregon colleagues on their successful dress rehearsals this week.)

Kent Henriksen and Dr. Mike Geist, co-leaders of the project, shared a few "lessons learned" and performance in key metrics in the most recent
Care Transformation forum:
  • average registration is 9 minutes
  • visit volumes are ramping up, as expected
  • 72%+ encounters closed same day
  • 91% of baseline for number of charges
  • 97% clean claims rate

One takeaway for physicians is to invest time in open labs before go-live. The Epic team is beefing up support. Talk with your clinic manager or view the schedule on the Epic education site.

One final note for the week--I wanted to acknowledge Dr. Jay Eisenberg, the Chief Medical Information Officer, for his invaluable support during the Epic go-live. He is also now building the informatics structure that will serve all of PeaceHealth for the long term

Handwashing Campaign
Four Hospitals Meet Both Goals
Since the most important tool to prevent infections is good hand hygiene, PeaceHealth continues to monitor our performance in this measure. In April, four PeaceHealth hospitals met or exceeded the goal of 90% for washing in and washing out. Congratulations to our hospital care teams in Bellingham, Ketchikan, Longview and Vancouver for their diligence in this vital area.

While PeaceHealth measures hand hygiene in only the hospitals, we recognize the value of handwashing in every clinical setting, including our clinics. It's a simple act with a potentially powerful impact. Thanks for doing your part.
