PeaceHealth Physicians & Providers,
 | Dr. Howard Graman |
Some great news from Dr. Steve Gordon who oversees Care Transformation and the Clinical Value Division at PeaceHealth. He reported earlier this week that all of our hospitals have achieved Meaningful Use Stage 1. It's an important milestone to celebrate. The steps taken to date will help us transform the care we deliver across the continuum. And the anticipated $16.5M in 2013 federal EHR incentive payments will go a long way to help fund our very expensive EHR investments and allow us to continue our mission. Thanks to everyone who made this possible. As Steve notes, credit for achieving MU stage 1 "goes to literally thousands of physicians, providers and caregivers who have contributed in myriad ways." Congratulations! Also, did you know this is National Nurses Week? It's an understatement to say nurses play a vital role in the care of our patients. I've known and worked with many in my practice over the years. There are several qualities I appreciate about good nurses, especially the way they can balance tenderness and toughness in working with patients and families in the healing process. In my experience, it takes someone special to be a nurse. If you haven't already, I hope you'll take a moment to say "thank you" to the nurses in your life.

Look for "conflict of interest" survey in July
|
Providers (and other PeaceHealth caregivers) will see a couple of compliance activities this summer. The first--the annual Conflict of Interest (COI) survey is not new, but this year, the Organizational Integrity Department will begin collecting survey information from employed providers for the first time. Employed providers (and others below) can expect to see a COI survey email from Carol Barnett on July 15 at their primary email address (the one on file with the Organizational Integrity Department). In addition to employed providers, COI applies to: - all PeaceHealth caregivers at the director level and above
- all system, regional and foundation board members
- all providers with a medical directorship
Deadline for COI completion will be August 17, 2013. The second--the Physician Payments Sunshine Act is a new provision in the health care reform law requiring drug and device manufacturers and group purchasing organizations (GPOs) to report payments or gifts of $10 or more made to physicians, hospitals and other providers on a yearly basis. It kicks in August 1 with data due to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid by March 31, 2014. You'll hear more on this act in the future. Read a summary from American Academy of Family Physicians. If you have any questions about either, please contact Organizational Integrity.
