This Week's Q&A

Question:
How much of their old records will patients see in the new Epic-based PatientConnection?

Answer:

Whatever information that is converted into Epic is what patients will see in their new Epic-based PatientConnection account. Read the Guide to Interfaces and Conversions for more details about what records are being converted from Centricity Enterprise. (Note: plans for the conversion of records from the multiple record systems in Vancouver are still to be determined.)

PeaceHealth Physicians & Providers,

Dr. Howard Graman
As a group, we are diverse with about 40 specialties. A significant percentage of our providers work in a hospital setting.

As health care reform takes shape, it will be important for us to work across the continuum  to manage patient care and population health.

Because primary care will be a key starting point for cross-specialty collaboration, Dr. Karen Sharpe, recently convened a primary care summit.

About 30 physician leaders from across PeaceHealth joined together to explore opportunities for improving quality outcomes and patient experience while raising the level of satisfaction among providers and staff. It was a great start to many more conversations to come. Thanks to all of those who helped make it a success.

I also want to acknowledge one of our PeaceHealth colleagues from Florence, Dr. Paul Pearson. At the Boston Marathon this week, Paul had finished the race and was heading back to the hotel with his wife at the time of the explosions. Shortly thereafter, he was giving medical aid to victims in the street.

We are grateful that he and his wife were safe and we appreciate and admire his heart for service and physical stamina in a terrifying situation. (Read the account from the Florence newspaper.)

Primary Care Summit

Dr. Karen Sharpe
Last week's PHMG Primary Care Leadership Summit included a keynote speech by Dr. Fred Bloom, Geisinger's Chief of Care Continuum, an overview of the trends in health care--nationwide and in the Northwest--as well as breakout sessions on topics such as moving to a team-based care model, recruitment and retention. The summit was intended to help us take stock of where the industry is and where we are in relation to the larger trends.

More than anything, we wanted input from our leaders to help us develop a clearer vision for where we want to go and to engage them as active participants in our journey there.

Dr. David Ruiz, Medical Director of the PeaceHealth Southwest Family Medicine Residency Program wrote:

"Thanks for an energizing and thought-provoking conference. I came away with some great ideas, and a much better sense of the future of our medical group."

We plan to make the summit an annual event. In the meantime, we look forward to sharing more from this first event in the coming months.
