PH Partners on Campaign
Thousands of American teens die every year from undetected heart conditions. PeaceHealth is working with Spencer's HeartStrong Foundation to offer a Heart Screen for Teens in Longview, WA on Saturday, Feb. 9. It's a great story & example of how PeaceHealth is partnering with others to make a difference in our communities.

PeaceHealth Physicians & Providers,

It was only about a year ago that the Epic ambulatory project was approved and launched.  We're now looking forward to having Siuslaw help lead the way with the first Epic go-live in about 90 days.

We, of course, have "miles to go," but this is a major milestone and I want to thank Dr. Mike Geist, Kent Henriksen and their team as well as the folks in the networks for all of their hard work to date. It's a good time to recognize how far we've come. Below is an update on the project and some key information everyone can use to prepare for their own go-live when the time comes.

Also below is our second "PHMG Best Practices" feature. Thanks to Dr. Liljegren for sharing some of the keys to her success in helping her patients manage their diabetes.

PHMG Best Practices
Diabetes: Keys to Good Control
On January 11, we published the first in a three-part PHMG Best Practices series highlighting examples of some of the best work being done in our medical group.

This month we are featuring tips from the Northwest Network's Dr. Diane Liljegren on Diabetes:  Keys to Good Control. She and her team have had exemplary success in diabetes management.

As you know the VISTA FY13 target for the Diabetes Quality Bundle is 20.0% of patients meeting all three measures for BP, A1C and LDL. We hope you find something of value from this series as we work together to reach our FY17 VISTA goal of 24.0%.

Coming soon:  a revision to our 2012 diabetes algorithm based on the newly published ADA guidelines-Standards of Medical Care in Diabetes-2013.
Epic Project Update
Counting Down to Go-live
In three months, PHMG is due to begin going live on the Epic ambulatory electronic health record--first in Siuslaw on May 1, followed by the rest of Oregon West Network on June 1 and the remainder of networks in the months to follow.

In the meantime, the Epic Project Team will finish up testing and fine-tune various elements of the system in preparation for the next big push:  education. The latest Epic newsletter features the process for Epic education. As part of that process, Epic change managers will host "Day in the Life" sessions throughout the next couple of months.

And by the end of March, PeaceHealth expects to complete the business plan for Epic Enterprise, which would extend use of the EHR into the hospitals by June 2017. (Read FAQ on Epic Enterprise.)
