 Operation Keep Amagoro Clean

Last November, the Kiwimbi library staff organized Operation Keep Amagoro Clean, a new community-based project whose mission is to keep the Kiwimbi Library and Community Centre and its surrounding environment clean and litter free.  This sets an example for those who come to the Library and Community Center as well as neighbors, while helping to prevent disease and water contamination. The Kiwimbi Community Centre is situated just off a busy highway with a great deal of truck traffic passing through, which adds to the accumulating litter. The local government provided the Kiwimbi staff with tools for our project.

The Operation proved to be a great success, creating public awareness on the merits of living in a clean environment.  Staff and volunteers encouraged the Amagoro community to put trash bins in designated areas in order to reduce litter and to make sure that drainage systems are clear in order to prevent stagnant water from contributing to the spread of disease.
