Opportunity through Education

The Kiwimbi Autobiography Project

In many parts of Kenya, "western" education is thought to be of such great value that families go as far as selling their land, a most vital asset, in order to send their children to school. Unfortunately, many schools in Kenya are not equipped to provide a quality education due to the fact that they have few books, computers, well-trained teachers and proper school buildings.  This is where Kiwimbi steps in.

Among other activities, Kiwimbi has a relationship with over 45 schools in Amagoro and an active Community Centre which hosts a library, 25 e-readers and trained teachers and volunteers who help students learn to read and write well.

Kiwimbi also runs camps to prepare students for National Exams. One of the assignments during camp is for students to write their life stories. These help the students gain comfort with the language while also providing culturally appropriate reading material for other learners. This is The Kiwimbi Autobiography Project (KAP).  We have gathered a few of these stories to create a book of life experiences by the children of Amagoro, Kenya.

Our KAP book is now available on Amazon. This book of honest, heartwarming stories gives the reader a glimpse into the life of a child in Amagoro.  You can purchase the book here.  Proceeds help fund our efforts in Kenya.
