Growing up in Kosenyi village, Metrine Ajuang had the opportunity to attend St. Thomas Amagoro Girls Secondary School in Amagoro for high school and had to walk 9km (over 5 1/2 miles miles) to and from school each day. Metrine liked school and did not mind making the long journey.
One day, her school received a visit from Professor Oluybayi Oluybayi, Executive Director of Kiwimbi, who promised the class that any student who managed to get an average grade of C+ or above on the National Exam (KCSE) would win a sponsorship to attend university. Metrine made it her goal to study hard to win a sponsorship. The hard work paid off. She passed the National Exam and entered Teachers Training College (TTC) in Machakos County on a sponsorship. While in college, Metrine volunteered at the Kiwimbi library.
Metrine became a Kiwimbi teacher following her graduation from TTC in July 2015. She is grateful to be able to work for Kiwimbi, as Kiwimbi played a big role in helping her realize her dream of becoming a teacher. One of her goals at Kiwimbi is to ensure that her students read as many books as possible to improve their reading and develop public speaking skills.
Thank you, Metrine, for your hard work and dedication!
