A very special Kenyan writer visited Kiwimbi in Amagoro recently. Godrey Ipalei, a professional writer who was born without hands, was overwhelmed to see the number of programs held at the Kiwimbi Library and Community Centre. Some of these programs included the sewing program, ceramic art, beading, and art for children. He was also able to witness students reading in the library as well as borrowing books. Students taking part in the English Access program were able to speak with him and have their writing critiqued.
Mr. Ipalei intends to visit a number of schools across Busia County to encourage students to read. Because he was so impressed with the Kiwimbi library, he intends to encourage students and teachers to visit the library not only to read books there, but also to borrow books.
Having professional writers visit the library is important and beneficial to all the students it serves. Many thanks to all the volunteers who help our students on a daily basis. And a big THANK YOU to all who have donated to Kiwimbi. Your donations allow Kiwimbi to maintain the library and its many programs, encourage writers such as Mr. Ipalei to visit, and promote a reading culture in Amagoro, Kenya! |
