Increase in Kiwimbi Students Beating
Benchmark on National Exam!
|
The results are in! Kiwimbi 8th grade students took the mandatory national exam, the Kenyan Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE), and continue to outperform test results realized in 2012, Kiwimbi's first year. The most dramatic improvement is the increase in the number of students whose test results exceeded the 250 mark. To enter high school, Kenyan 8th graders must score at least 250 on the KCPE. If they score below this mark, they are either unable to advance to high school or end up attending a very academically poor school. 61% of the students at Amagoro Primary School, where Kiwimbi has been a major presence, scored above the 250 mark. This is an increase of 8 percentage points over last year. Fantastic news, indeed!
Kiwimbi has been active in Amagoro, Kenya for three years, and the 8th grade test scores have consistently improved. Congratulations to the students and teachers at Amagoro Primary who have worked so hard for this academic accomplishment! And a huge thank you to all the volunteers who log as many as 5,000 hours of work each month tutoring and preparing the students through Kiwimbi.
These students now have the opportunity to further their education at the high school level. This is the mission of Kiwimbi. Helping people help themselves.
