Marine turtles have thrived in the world's oceans for millions of years.  However, as a result of anthropogenic pressures, many populations have declined in the last decades and now face a number o f challenges to survive in the 21st century. This presentation will explore some the threats that marine turtles face and discuss some of the opportunities for their conservation. Case studies will be presented from research conducted in Brazil, Australia and the USA.

Dr. Fuentes is a marine biologist in the FSU Department of Earth Ocean & Atmospheric Sciences. Her main research interests focus on conservation planning, natural resource management, and on anthropogenic and climate change impacts on marine mega-fauna, especially marine turtles.
