Who is the real Father of Labor Day?
The first Monday in September is the day we celebrate labor and all the social and economic achievements of American workers.
But the records show discrepancy as to who founded this now international holiday. Some say Peter J. McGuire, general secretary of the Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners and a co-founder of the American Federation of Labor was the first to suggest such a day to honor those 'who from rude nature have delved and carved all the grandeur we behold'.
Others believe that Matthew Maguire, a machinist, founded the holiday. This secretary of Local 344 of the International Association of Machinists claimed the holiday in 1882 while serving as secretary of the Central Labor Union in New York. What is clear is that it was this Central Labor Union that adopted the Labor Day proposal and planned the demonstration and ensuing picnic.
So, who is the founding father? The jury may still be out on this one. A recent poll shows 55% say Maguire while 45% claim McGuire.
Sounds like a quagmire of the Guires to me. Bottom line: unions have been in feisty spirits since Day 1. Either way, we all get a day off to officially celebrate the end of summer, and I'm good with that.

Q. I purchased the Full Course Deal last April. Do I get to sit in on September's sessions for free?
A. No. We only grant that privilege to those who purchased the Full Course Deal in the last month or so. The cost should not be a deterrent to your getting a solid education in successful trading.
Q. Can my wife sit in on our sessions?
A. Yes, absolutely. We encourage spousal support in learning to trade. The collaboration often means better overall results. Just let us know in our webinars so we can be prepared to answer all the questions from the both of you.
Q. I've been trading for many years. Do I still need to take your course?
A. This question surfaces all too often. Undoubtedly, you will know much of the material that will be taught. However, even if you pick up one new piece of information that could help in your trading, would that not be worth it? Trading is a dynamic, ever changing endeavor. Staying on top of the market is vital to success. The short answer: yes, you should still take the training.
