Ask Powerful Questions to Select Better Caregivers
By Stephen Tweed, CSP
It's pretty clear. Past behavior is the best predictor of future performance. What people have done before gives you a good indication of what they will do in the future. When you are recruiting and selecting caregivers, office staff, or sales professionals, the behavioral interview is the critical piece of the selection process. You've done our initial screening. The candidate has filled out an application. You've administered the CQA pre-employment assessment and you have the results. Now it's time for the interview.Asking powerful questions that engages the candidate and gets her or him talking becomes a major factor in our success of hiring great people. When you ask better questions, you get a better understanding of the applicants, and you are able to do a better job of selecting the top caregivers.Read More...

While all of those elements are important, perhaps selection is the most critical. Those companies that have put in place a systematic process for selecting high quality caregivers have lower turnover, higher client satisfaction, better margins, and more profits. Perhaps more important, their owners have fewer headaches and less stress. To get some insights into how selection can help you grow your business, make more money, and reduce your stress, take a look at this short video by Stephen Tweed.

Ohio to Increase Funding for Background Checks on CaregiversBy Jill Scott This week I came across the article Ohio to bolster checks on home health care workers on www.wdtn.com. Not only has the state of Ohio received $2.1 million in federal grant money to use towards background checks for home health caregivers, but the state has said that it will also pitch in $700,000 to help boost access to background information on caregivers to direct-care providers. This funding means more access to the AG's fingerprint database. The electronic system will allow for faster background checks and immediate notifications of a caregiver's arrest or conviction.Read more...

Is Private Duty Accreditation for YOU?
Join the professionals at ACHC in their brand new office building in Raleigh, NC on May 30, 2013 for "Achieving Private Duty Accreditation". One of the growing trends in private duty home care is the accreditation of home care companies to demonstrate their commitment to quality of care. In fact, the NC Division of Medical Assistance will require agencies to become accredited in private duty nursing only by March 2014. The Accreditation Commission for Health Care was one of the first accrediting agencies to establish quality standards for private duty home care that are separate from the standards for home health care.
