A new report recently released by the Alzheimer's Association shows that dementia is the second largest contributor to death after heart failure.

This report and the information from it will be particularly helpful to those of you in private duty home care who are frequently serving elderly clients with dementia as their primary or secondary chronic diagnosis.  Here are some statistics that you will find helpful as you further develop your home care program for serving clients with dementia and their families:

How Can I Sell Private Duty to Physicians?
By: Stephen Tweed, CSP

You have probably heard me say in my workshops and live web conferences that physicians are not the greatest referral sources for private duty home care.  Our research shows that you will have much more success making sales calls to home health agencies, hospices, senior living communities, bank trust officers, and estate attorneys.

Beware: Facebook Scam Spreading Quickly

By Stephen Tweed

If you are using Facebook as part of your home care social marketing strategy, you need to be aware of a new scam that is out there where scammers are using a series of surveys to get vital information from you and then construct a fake Facebook page using your account.

Symantec, the antivirus company, has discovered that the scammers are using Amazon S3 to host the campaign under the label "Experience Facebook Black".  It involves installing an extension of the Google Chrome web browser, and then capturing your information to construct this phony Facebook page.

ACHC and the March on Washington
Barb Sylvester
VP of Clinical Compliance & Accreditation
Accreditation Commission for Health Care

As I participated in the annual National Association for Home Care & Hospice (NAHC) March on Washington / Private Duty Home Care Integrated Conference & Exposition, I thought of private duty providers who have never had the opportunity to attend this event and wanted to share my experience.

NAHC arranged for eight Senators to address the home care attendees from a variety of states, and we listened as these bipartisan champions of our health care causes provided perspectives on the 2013 legislative agenda.  Each Senator had a personal connection to home care as they relayed stories of how a hospice nurse or private duty aide touched their lives and reinforced the need for all of us to advocate for our businesses and patients.
