The Pain Paradox
By Stephen Tweed This past Saturday, I was attending the Kentucky Chapter meeting of the National Speakers Association. The guest speaker was my friend and colleague, Rory Vaden. Rory is an amazing young man who just published the New York Times Best Seller book, Take the Stairs.Rory left me with many great ideas which I will share with you in future articles, but the one that will have the greatest impact you is "The Pain Paradox."The Pain Paradox.
The pain paradox says that when people are facing a decision, they can respond from one of two dimensions: impulse, feeling, and emotion, or reason and logic. Most people respond with impulse, feeling, and emotion.

Explosive Job Growth for Private Duty Caregivers over next Eight Years

By Stephen Tweed
The US Department of Labor projects that the two fastest growing occupations between 2010 and 2020 will be Personal Care Aides and
Home Health Aides. The need for home caregivers will grow by more than 70% during this decade.
A recent article in Bloomberg Business Week talks about how much our industry will need to increase the pay of caregivers to meet the growing need. The article also talks about the impact of removing the Federal Companionship Exemption from minimum wage and overtime.

Independent Caregiver Charged with ID Theft
A Salisbury, CT woman who was working as an independent caregiver for a 95 year old Connecticut woman has been arrested and charged with stealing $150,000 over a two year period. Heather Enslow had been hired by the woman's son to provide care for her in the home. The son, who had Power of Attorney, had agreed to provide rent, electricity, heat and a car to drive along with $300 a week to Enslow. In exchange, Enslow agreed to provide in-home care services, and pick up and pay for the woman's prescriptions and groceries.

Is Facebook a Business or a Hobby?
 By Stephen Tweed
For the past year or so, I've been asking lots of questions in and around home health, hospice, and private duty home care about the effectiveness of social media marketing. It seems that everyone is doing it, but no one is tracking the results. I've only gotten one specific example of how a home health care sales rep has used LinkedIn successfully to generate a significant number of new patients using SMM. (I'll write about that soon). I've gotten absolutely no indication that anyone in home care is getting new clients from Facebook. |
Learn from the Best
Last year I was attending the annual convention of our National Speakers Association. One of the speakers was a colleague by the name of Marty Grunder, who owns and operates a highly successful landscaping business. Marty also speaks and consults for owners of other landscaping businesses. In his presentation, Marty described his Green Industry Expert Field Trip. He brings ten owners of smaller landscaping businesses to his location near Dayton, Ohio, for a one day visit. He shows them in detail how he does his business, and gives them an opportunity to see his company in action. When I heard this concept, I immediately knew that we had to offer this to our clients in private duty home care. It's taken about two years to put it together, but here it is.I'm pleased to announce to you the Private Duty Experts Field Trip. |
The Leading Home Care Network discussion group on LinkedIn has just passed 3,000 members. Check in to see the latest discussions:
The Leading Home Care Network is a closed group, and we limit membership to active owners, CEOs, administrators, and senior staff members in home health, hospice, and private duty home care. There's no blatant advertising or unrelated posts to waste your time. Take a look.

"Capture the Caller: Turning Inquiries into Admissions in Private Duty Home Care"
with Barbara Akst and Stephen Tweed
December 20, 2012
4:00 pm EST
This interactive web conference is designed to give you the latest techniques to turn inquiries into admissions, and grow your home care business. Research conducted by Leading Home Care shows that most home care companies are wasting sales and marketing money because they are not tracking the number of inquiries coming into their office, and the % of inquiries that are converted to admissions. In working with hundreds of home care companies on sales and marketing strategies, we've learned that most companies can grow their business by 20% just by doing a better job of answering the telephone, engaging the caller, and converting phone calls it home visits. Once you get into the client's home, data from the National Private Duty Benchmarking Report shows that you can easily convert 80% of those prospects into clients.
This comes as no surprise to our special guest for this web conference. Barbara Akst is a nationally known expert in improving the ability of home care companies to convert inquiries into admissions.
NOTE: Registration and payment are required.
