3D Design Not Falling Flat!

The use and affordability of 3D printers continues to rise as numerous industries, including design, embrace this versatile technology.

3D printers make creating a model of a must-have accessory or a model of a space amazingly simple and accurate. Software programs allow designers to create their visions, export it to their printer's software and print it out quickly and easily.

An article in the fall issue of the ASID Icon gives the complete low-down on this emerging technology. Check out a few cool 3D items here, including a lamp cover that projects a forest on room walls, Project Runway accessories created by a finalist and a video of this technology in action.

So cool!

Vendor Spotlight: Scathain

If you have ever set foot in the Iron Horse Hotel in Milwaukee, you've no doubt marveled at the design and interior decorating. Eclectic, contemporary pieces adorn the inside and outside of the hotel. It is a cornucopia for the visual senses, thanks, in part, to John McWilliam, founder of Scathain, an alliance of Milwaukee artistisans.

Among their repertoire: fine woodworking, metal-smithing, mirror-smithing and custom surface finishes. Take a look at what they do. We hope to be working on a project incorporating their amazing artistic vision soon!

 Retail Works Service: Trunk Shows

Hosting fashion or traveling trunk shows are great ways to gain exposure for your brand. But how do you get from Point A to Point B with everything you need in tow, and good to go? Very carefully.

There are lots of elements to consider when taking your shop on the road. A professional appearance involves lots of little details. Here are a few things to consider:
  • Transportation - Make sure that you have a large enough vehicle to get your merchandise, display racks, set-up equipment and personnel to your show location.
  • Portability - What elements can you take for your display that are eye-catching, interesting, functional and portable!
  • Set-up - If you can, walk the space ahead of time to take careful measurements and notes to ensure that you will have everything you need for a polished display. Check the lighting, electrical outlet availability, the flooring surface, where to park to unload, etc. Remember to bring plenty of risers and props. Do you need to supply your own tables or will they be provided?
  • Signage - Pullup banners are a great way to attract attention from a distance and communicate your brand quickly. Tabletop or floor standing versions are available.

Our display artist and visual merchandiser, Kim White, is in the midst of working with  Accesible Wear as they take to the road next month to the Alexian Village for a fashion show. Like us on Facebook to see photos from the event!

Community Inheritance

Mike Morriseey of Redevelopment Resources recently wrote an article regarding characteristics communities inherit, for better or worse. Read his article, reprinted below, to learn some potential pitfalls and strategies to correct them.

Inheritance is usually thought of in terms of property or other possessions passing to another at an owner's death or secondarily, genetic characteristics which pass from parents to offspring and generations beyond.  Inheritance may also be thought of in terms of community economic development wherein officials of communities inherit

Client Spotlight

We are busy working with Carolyn, and her daughter Lyndsay, at Fyndig, a new shop set to open next month in Shorewood.  Their mission:
to create a socially responsible store, carrying quality products, that gives back to the community.

They've hired us to assist with the store layout, color placement and lighting selections. Stay tuned for the grand opening of this fun, creative space! We can't wait!

Design Tip

Give Props to Props!
