Pop-up & Parklets Popping up Everywhere - For Good Reason
When the recession hit, retail space was readily available. Businesses willing to scoop up that available space were scarcer. Say hello to pop-up stores. Affordable retail spaces, minus long expensive contracts, are appealing to new shop owners who are testing the waters, and for established retailers looking for another outlet for their goods or services. Pop-up stores create an element of surprise for shoppers. Retail stores, museum exhibits, restaurants and more have made this form of retailing a staple in malls and small towns are jumping on the phenomenon.
Check out the transformation of one small town led by a group of college students who combined a pop up business with "parklets" (parking spots transformed into more sidewalk space, as seen here on the east side of Milwaukee).
The future of pop-up stores is limitless. As they continue to evolve they are becoming centers that extend the conversations that companies are currently having with their customers via social media. What products do their customers like? What can they improve on? They can become an easy and affordable way to test new products, concepts or neighborhoods without making a commitment. No marital contract necessary!

We're having a Retail Meetup that is all about fun! Socialize and network with other independent retailers at our first happy hour event taking place on October 1, from 4:30 - 7:30 p.m. at the cool, new Rail Hall in historic Walker's Point. Entertainment, hors d'oeuvres, cash bar and plenty of time to learn and share with other indies await you! Share your retail story in our video booth. Our past Rallies have had great turnouts with lots of positive feedback. Hear what one attendee had to say: As I wrote in my survey, there was nothing I would have changed. Even as an "outsider" to retail, I have 3 pages of notes...things I can implement today and dream about for tomorrow. In fact, I will be going into a meeting shortly this afternoon, and will use some of the ideas the speakers talked about. I can't wait for your next gathering. You set the bar high...real high. Almost untouchably high!

Client Spotlight

Retailworks recently finished presenting design ideas to Lakefront Brewery for the renovation of their Commerce Street location.
The design goal was to "create a space that is true to its heritage, reflects and communicates the iconic Lakefront Brewery brand, tells some good stories, is 'just funky enough,' and ultimately creates a memorable experience for the 80,000+ visitors that come through the building each year."
Recommendations included exterior and interior signage, colors and finishes, fixtures and furnishings, and decorative artifacts.
