News for Your Car and Safety
September 2013
Greetings!

Now that the school year is back in full swing, many kids are taking the bus to class. If this is your child's first time riding in a school bus, make sure they know how to stay safe on their trip to school.
by Caty Hirst
  • No seatbelts doesn't mean no safety rules! Sit quietly and face forward while the bus is moving.
  • Don't distract the driver-if you have a question, wait for the bus to stop, then raise your hand and call the driver's name.
  • Keep the aisles clear at all times to avoid tripping hazards.
School Safety Isn't Just for Kids

As a driver, you have safety rules to be aware of

regarding school buses, too. Never pass a school bus when it is loading or unloading. Kids may dart out before you can stop. Be extra alert around crosswalks and stoplights as well. Get your car ready for the extra stop and go with a Multi-Point Inspection to make sure everything is in working order.

It's never too early to start teaching your kids about car safety! Get their creative juices flowing and help them make their own "car" out of cardboard paper towel holders, boxes, blankets and pillows, or blocks. Ask them how they might respond to simple situations on the road-"What would you do if..." Their answers may surprise you!

may find yourself driving in the dark a whole lot more. Be proactive and check your car's lights now, before you leave for your commute. You don't want to be reminded by a uniformed officer handing you a ticket for having a burned-out headlight. If you do have a light out, it's easy to replace. For do-it-yourself tips, check out a step-by-step guide.
