"STOP TEXTING or CALLING WHILE DRIVING!"
This is the only imperative message you'll ever receive. And look, you didn't get it through a text. While talking about the dangers of texting and cell phone use while driving seems to be a worn-out subject, apparently a lot of people still aren't getting the message. A lot of people seem to believe that they can defy the odds, even though thousands of people have already been killed, and many of them are people who weren't driving and texting. Yep, they're the innocent ones who just happened to be at the wrong place at the right time.
Driving is an activity that demands 100% attention, considering that when you're driving 60 miles an hour, you're covering 88 feet per second. In 3-1/2 seconds, you've traveled the length of a football field. If you're looking down at your phone for a "short" 3-1/2 seconds, someone could have slammed on their brakes in front of you, and you could kill them and yourself before you've had a chance to finish that not-so-important message, or dialed that not-so-urgent call. If your text or call is that important, pull over. Whatever you do, keep your hands on the wheel and your mind on the road.

Resist the urge to multitask
Some of us have been horrified to see someone reading a book or doing office work while driving. But there are other activities that each of us may have engaged in-such as putting on makeup, shaving, eating, or entering an address into a GPS-that has put us equally at risk. Anything that takes our eyes off the road drives up the probability of an accident, so strive to perform all those other tasks before you take your car onto the street.

Hands-free devices aren't danger-free
An in-depth study by AAA has found that voice-to-text electronic devices are actually a greater distraction to drivers than simply talking on cell phones, even if they are hands-free. With a cell phone, there's a 15% delay in reaction time, while with a hands-free device such as a smart phone or GPS, there's a 25% delay in reaction time. The lesson from this is that hands-free devices aren't necessarily eyes-free, and keeping our eyes on the road is the best thing we can do for ourselves, our families, and others on the road.
