Growth Goal Surpassed!

CCAE memberships have increased by 11% this year, thus surpassing the 10% growth goal set by the State Board. Thanks to the recruiting efforts of your chapter and section leaders, to our Office Manager, Sharon Bonney, and her team, and to all of you who talked to a colleague about joining CCAE, we now have over 315 new members. In addition, Institutional Memberships are up 7% and Golden Circle Members have jumped by 26%. A larger CCAE membership base means greater power to advocate with legislators and the Governor on your behalf. It also means expanded staff development events, as demonstrated by the large state conference in San Diego last week, and increased opportunities for recognizing excellence in teaching and support services at chapter levels.

VIP Program Target Met! Thanks primarily to Sharon Bonney and team, we have initiated a VIP Business Partner program that provides specific incentives and rewards to our long-time business partners, for a modest annual fee. We have met our target goal of 10 vendors for the first year and, at the state conference last week, invited additional businesses to join. You will see the names of these business featured in our newsletters and on the CCAE website, along with links to their websites.

Dawn Koepke gave a rousing keynote at the CCAE Awards Luncheon, which was sponsored by CTB McGraw Hill. During her speech, she covered a number of topics including--a history of adult education, the current state of adult education in California, remaining challenges, the path to success, and the importance of grass roots efforts. She ended by reminding the audience that if they are not "at the table, they will be on the menu!" Get the details and download her presentation here.

At our state CCAE conference in San Diego, Jody Slyter facilitated a well-attended and current workshop on the basics of AB 86 Regional Consortia.  Over 50 teachers were in attendance, learning about the process for developing plans for Regional Consortia.  In the next few weeks, many Regional Consortia are providing events for faculty and staff to begin their involvement in the Regional Consortia process. If you are an Adult Education teacher, this is your best opportunity to help set the future of Adult Education. You will have an opportunity to:

  • Evaluate your current level and types of adult education programs you teach
  • Assess your current needs for adult education programs within the region you teach
  • Construct plans for Adult Education Consortia to integrate your existing programs and create seamless transitions into post-secondary education or the workforce
  • Create plans to address the gaps identified in the programs that you teach and the locations where your classes are offered
  • Generate plans to employ approaches proven to accelerate your student's progress toward his or her academic or career goals
  • Improve plans to provide professional development opportunities for you and other staff, to help you achieve greater program integration and improve student outcomes
  • Develop plans to leverage your community's existing regional structures.
Your input and participation is essential to the overall success of your Regional Consortium.  Please contact your Regional Consortium project coordinator or your administrator to ask how you can be involved in the planning process.
