Alumna Jennifer Granick Assails NSA Surveillance as Illegal

New College alumna Jennifer Granick has received international attention as the co-author of two prominent op-ed columns, in The New York Times and The Atlantic magazine website, arguing that the National Security Agency's mass surveillance of phone calls, emails and other online communications is illegal.
Granick is director of civil liberties at Stanford Law School's Center for Internet and Society. She wrote the columns with colleague Christopher Sprigman, a professor at University of Virginia's law school and a fellow at the Stanford center.

New College Appoints Mark St. Louis as General Counsel

New College of Florida has named Mark St. Louis, an attorney with experience in higher education, human resources and management, as its general counsel, effective July 1.
St. Louis comes to New College from Stetson University College of Law, where he was manager of the university's Center for Excellence in Higher Education Law and Policy. He also served as the center's coordinator while he pursued his law degree. St. Louis previously served as coordinator of the human resources program at St. Petersburg College from 2008 to 2009.
